you gotta check the lower perch as well. that one was actually the toughest one for me to line up. required a mallet. if either one is off the plate will be twisted from its intended position.

not really. I realized my own jack doesn't lift the 135, it just rips into the jack-plastic-support. So i have to go to my friends. The lower perch looks perfect. I'm dreading its the bolt they put on.
will keep you posted. |

Here's an update. I took it apart, checked everything. Looks ok, bottom spring perch is perfectly aligned, top is within an 1/8 inch. Called Vorshlag, they seem convinced that their bolts are "low profile, special order" bolts and that my "replacement" bolt for the broken one is the most likely culprit of the noises i'm hearing.
Guess what, they sell a replacement ring with 3 of the correct bolts: http://www.vorshlag.com/product_info...roducts_id=209 On order, hopefully will be here next week. Apparently that ring of bolts will be an easy swap out with just lowering the shock down and removing the old one, no spring compression required. Hope springs eternal. |

If you unscrew the three bolts, the triangular plate that the bolts are welded onto should be removable from the rest of the assembly. If you look at the picture on the vorshlag website, that piece that the bolts are welded onto is not a complete triangle. This should be interesting. btw, the vorhslag website says to torque to 16 ft lbs, the bolts on that plate were so tight i had to use to hands to loosen it. No wonder they broke the bolt.
if anyone is getting any work done in Lexington, MA, i know where not to go. |

Well, it wasn't the solution. I called Vorslag again and this time they said it's most likely the top bolt again and to recheck the top and bottom perches and the rest of the suspension components.
So close and yet so far. |

I'm hearing it too. I do not have any broken top pieces, and my top nuts are tightened too. I think they may designed it so that the top string perch is too close to the camber plate, and when articulation occurs, there is some clacking on washboard surfaces... which around MA, is most roads right now.. Pothole city. I wonder if there is a means to have a washer in there, between the upper spring perch and the camber plate?

oh man larryn, i thought you were noise-free?
i called vorshlag a few times about this now. They swear there should be no noises and there's no need for any bushings. i'm tired of taking my tire off and rechecking the suspension bits and bolts. and, the noises are on the passenger side only, the drivers side is fine. i test it out over a 300' section of road that is smooth except for a 12" wide patch that runs the length of road (the water co/electric co dug up something) - on the drivers side, smooth and quiet. On the passenger side, clanking. the noises definitely make me drive it less (use my GTI instead) and less agressively. But that has to stop soooon. arrutled - are you 100% noise free? |

yeah noise free. you did say your spring was 1/8 inch from being in the right position. you might think that it is insignificant, but I guarantee its not. mine are so well seated, they are almost too seated. thanks to my friend the mallet.

lol, did you mallet the spring perch with the top-nut in place (but not quite tight?)
i worry about stretching/damaging the rubber fitting between the spring and the spring perch by using the mallet. but apparently i should not worry about it? i will pay $200 to have that noise gone forever and re-align if necessary!!! i wonder if i could just re-clamp the spring and pound it over without having to take the top nut off. that might be doable in a 30 minutes rather than a few hours or having to take it to a shop. totally jealous of your noise-free install |
