Hey Seth...good to see you this morning at the shop. The ZHP looks good...should've taken a closer peek while I was there. Good luck and mod her up a bit

its just bliss out of something that pales in comparison (on paper) to a lot of the engines in the lineup today.
I see why there are so many "die hards" who prefer the older e46s and e39's to todays models. |

interestingly, i don't think it's much bigger then the 135 as for the overall length. I remember when my buddy had his old 4 door e36 M3 and we'd park side by side, my car was almost the exact dimensions, but with a shorter wheel base. I don't like how cars keep getting bigger. |

ehhhhhhhh i doubt it.
the m54 (to me) feels like a stronger engine. you can turbo or supercharge it for much less and still get big numbers like you would adding a tune to an N54/55. Additionally the 340whp in a ZHP would blow away a 340whp N54/55 because of the gearing. I can keep up with a stock N54/55 up to 60-80mph pretty easily now with only around 210whp/wtq (it'd pull away quickly after that because of power difference). Now swapping it for an S54, S62, S65 or S85... different story. |

yeah i just think if you're gonna swap you do so with the S-series motors because they're made to race. |

haha, i see....
here's my question though, how often are you on the track, and if they engines are the same price to be purchased and swapped, isn't the N54/55 a better way to go for every day street use? especially since the e46 is a whole bunch lighter. I'm just playing in the theoretical side of things. If i were making a track car.... I wouldn't touch the N54/55 but for everyday driving and fun, it just seems more useable (except in snow... with that much torque) |

well why swap at all then if its not a track car? I can S/C the M54 motor to be just as quick as an N54/55 for 1/2 the price of what a swap would be.
