Couple of questions:
  • What is that little button next to the shifter?
  • Why the hell is the air conditioner (AC) on?
  • What's the guy saying at the end?
  • How do I get this guy's job?

Button should be an engine kill switch.

Around 1:37 there is a decent shot of the instrument cluster. Don't see any boost gauge.

They are saying:

full stark = very strong
sehr giel = very cool

Btw... that driver really wasn't pushing it IMO. He could have been more "wild" with it into the corners. And I cringed when he slammed the car over those curbs. Seems like teh car got air born.

I love how the driver has a permanent smile on his face. Priceless.

I agree it's should have one! At the very beginning of the movie you can see the car rev up to 7100rpm and just by the sound I dont believe that the redline will be higher than 7000rpm

Also, the tachometer only goes up to 8000rpm... Even though it doesn't really mean anything, I can't imagine a redline at 7500 if the Tach numbers only go to 8000...

Maybe they sourced RB turbos for this car!?!?!?!? HAHAHA

The audio on this video probably offers the best fidelity so far, and the exhaust sounds pretty good to my ears. The Australian article indicated the exhaust note is still a work in progress, so I am hopeful it will only get better from what we're hearing on this video.

This car has ZHP shift knob. The driver was not pushing the car at all. It means he is hidding something.

This video was different than the previous videos I've seen. On the others, the driver handled the car and the track like a pro, like he'd driven it many times. This driver didn't push the car very hard and his lines (at least to my eyes and I'm not a pro by any means) were quite sloppy, almost like it was his first time driving the car. The constant smile on his face only reinforces my opinion that he hadn't driven the car before, at least not on this track.

speculated 7.1k - 7.5k rpm is really good for a turbo-ed car. "high revving" m3 is 8300. Not that far away. Real question is how good the power delivery after 6000 rpm.

Thanks Dackelone!

I seriously hope this car gets more cooling and larger turbos than the N54 and N55. I don't want just more factory boost from the tiny snails.

it looked like he was revving it high and it had no ooomph on the to end. I really want to drive this car for myself when it releases and then i can make my own determination of the engine

Without knowing throttle position it's hard to speculate. I'm with you, final specs and a drive are necessary.

Except the McLaren MP4-12C that has redline at 8.500 rpm, tell me what other turboed car has redline above 7.000 rpm? No other except M1.
M1 WILL KILL!

Of course this video is different. It was shot to put on m-power.com. Ever try to hold a camera steady while someone bombs it around a track? Good luck. I get that this forum probably has drivers that are leagues better than the M test drivers, but c'mon. This was a puff piece to give people a better view/sound of the car. Not the Indy 500.

I enjoyed it for what it was.

ROFL. $265K MacLaren and $40K 1-M in the same sentence. Back from the fantasyland now.

Sounds very uninspiring even at 7000 rpm. Quite bland and boring much like a regular i6 sedan and X5 M.

It is hilarious to see continuously people in denial all along about the 7000 rpm redline and still believe magically it will be higher when there is zero reasons, proof or fact to support this other. The tach does not even go past 8000 rpm, for crying out loud. LOL.

This is a turbocharged car and already X5 M and X6 M are rev limited at 6800 - 7000 rpm. I can bet when the car is already sitting on the lot, people would still be saying BMW has a secret plan to update the redline to 8000 rpm at the 1200 mile service.

There is no way the redline will be higher than 7000 rpm since it would defeat the purpose. BMW put turbos exactly to moved away from high-revving engines, to cheapen the production costs, improve fuel economy, lower emissions and support the heavier weights of the car (F10 M5 at 4500 lbs, for example).

"Can't have your cake and eat it too".
