Update on Iphone 2G + IDrive issues I was having. - BMW 1 Series Coupe Forum / 1 Series Convertible Forum (1M / tii / 135i / 128i / Coupe / Cabrio / Hatchback) (BMW E82 E88 128i 130i 135i)

When I got the 1 series in 2009 - I ordered the Smartphone option and got the Y cable first (and eventually order the doc).

For whatever reason IDrive does not recognized Iphone 2G. (even though there is no decription saying that it does not support it) - every indication that I was looking on BMWNA online seem to suggest that it supported it.

When I plug an Iphone 2G + Y cable or dock - Idrive treats it like a 3rd Party Music player. It lets you play audio and control the volume but no access the library.

I brought it into the dealer a few time for consultation - they had to escalate the issue to field engineering.

When I went in to the dealer today. We tested with the shop foreman's Iphone 3G. It works and recognizes. But when I plug in the 2G - it does not.

I'm guessing that 2G isn't supported - but I want to double check a final time with people here to see if anyone else was able to have their Iphone 2G (when they had one) supported by the car/IDrive?

What version of the 2G OS are you running? I have an Ipod Touch and when I tried to make it work in a friend's BMW it did not. I updated the OS to at least 3.x and now it seems to work. Have not tried it in the 128 yet because that car has its own Nano...

My phone is updated with the latest version 3.1.3 I think. I frequently check the "check the updates" button - and no new version has come out recently. 2G was not part of the iOS4 roll out.

Perhaps I should just bid my time and wait to get Iphone 4 and then get a new cable for it.

Interestingly enough - I did an additional test with a friend's 3G iphone.

Using the Y cable that I got -
3G - Can be recognize but cannot charge
2G - Can charge but won't be recognized by the phone.
