135i & K&N

Anyone have the K&N drop in filter on their 135i?

How's it sound? I can get one locally for $100...Any sound increase?

Any other ideas?

I'd like a bit louder sound on the car. I've done the Dinan Stage 2 already. Sounds nice, but still a bit quiet.

I notice on most of the exhaust systems that you mostly hear 'engine' out the tail pipe and not 'exhaust' (I used to drive a civic...I know exhaust ;P )

Is this the turbos that silence it? I notice that downpipes increase the 'exhaust' noise a lot (cat delete), but I'll most likely void warranty (posts on turbo spool & boost creep..etc.)

How can I make that beautiful noise louder without any warranty problems?

You drove a civic so you know exhaust......

You won't notice much noise increase from the drop in, if you do a dual cone setup you will notice much more... As far as power increases, they will be minimal unless you tune for the increased air, or until you get to the power levels where the increased air will be beneficial.

As far as drop ins...they can be had for about 50-60 buck so shop around 100 is too much.

Yes a turbo is a silencer of sorts.... but please keep in mind you don't "hear exhaust"

The reason downpipes increase noise is because they delete the cat, yes this will void your warranty if you have a picky dealer.

If you wanna go for sound, then get a DCI. Otherwise the stock airbox is more beneficial because of the air temp in the engine bay being sucked by DCI.

No need to go with K&N for $100 (it is actually cheaper through Ebay). Get the BMW drop-in, which is same manufacturer as the Macht Schnell one, except costs much cheaper. Don't get your hopes up for more noise or whoosh as it is very slight, but still maintains the closed form airbox while increasing 'breathability'.

Oh no! Don't tell us........
Agreed, filters are to remove particles from the air stream, but how much air they let in will make a noise difference. I've used K&N and there is a sound difference.

Thx for the smarty comment though
