Thinking of powder coating/painting stock wheels. Advice needed

Can't stand the brake dust showing up minutes after a car wash, and with the shadowline trim (and SGM color), dark wheels is the only option. Wish BMW had a Titanium package option similar to Audi...

Anyhow, anyone powdercoated their stock wheels and can recommend a credible place (NY tri-state area or ship)? Looking for something more unique, like gunmetal rather than pure black. What does a job like that run on average?

Thx Fone Phreak. Where was this done?

If say you have slight curb rash on a one of the wheeels, do they charge extra or putting it in perfect cosmetic shape is part of the powder coating quote?

I did flat black. $100 a wheel at a place on LI. I thought it pretty reasonable, as I had heard $600 for a set.
And he fixed any rash beforehand as part of the prep, which was included in the cost.

As I found out the hard way, brake dust etches itself into powdercoating pretty quickly. Shouldn't be too noticeable on black, but I had mine (on my Lotus) powdercoated yellow. What a pain keeping them clean.

Thx for the feedback. Yeah, I was hoping it wouldn't be matte on the surface as the brake dust will get baked in rather easily. Hoping for something like the E39 M5 gunmetal type wheels (grey-ish but with an invisible clearcoat, although brake dust ended up eating hrough mine over the years too), or anything like Audi offers on their cars (e.g. there is a Titanium package on the new B8 S4, as their was on the B7 RS4).

I know that one of the local NY guys got his wheels coated somewhere in Jersey. SN is MrDaVinci. I'll try and find a post.

EDIT - found it. http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...ghlight=powder

I know its not a 135i but here is my 07 335i that i sold a while back, i painted the wheels... i've used the technique on about 10 cars... 3 of my own... and it works/looks great... all for about $40.

For brake dust, try the Armor All Wheel Protectant. The stuff works wonders and cheaper than powder coating or painting wheels. Of course, if you want a different colored wheel then go for it!

I got mine powdercoated too but you will still get the nasty dust on black wheel as well. they will look brown. however, ever since I changed my brake pads to cool carbons I don't have any problem with brake dust. btw they are great pads on top of it.

I painted my stock wheels myself. With a lil patience and if you take your time with prep work, you will get an amazing finished product without the jacked up price the paint shop will charge you. I spent around 50 bucks on supplies as opposed to 100 a wheel at the shop.

I'm thinking of doing my wheels as well. I was quoted $150 a wheel here in Richmond. This includes, dismounting the tire, powdercoating, remounting tires and balance.
