BSH OCC still empty??

i've had my BSH OCC installed since the beginning of last month and today before taking my car out i checked the dipstick on the can and it was dry, i then stuck a long wire tie in there and it was dry. then i took a flashlight and looked inside and it was completely dry.

how long before your BSH OCC collected oil? also within the time that i've had my BSH OCC installed i didn't drive my car everyday, maybe 4-5 30 mile trips and the rest where cruises around town. before the BSH i had a RR OCC installed and i didn't empty that or even check the can for months after i installed it before emptying it out and when i did it only drained 1-2 ounces of oil.

Depends on how you drive really. If you WOT a lot there'll be more blow by gas (oil).
I didn't see any oil in the can after 2weeks, so I send an email and asked BSH about which hose should go into which inlet, but they said it didn't matter, but I switch them around anyways, and now I see oil being collected. but then, I also did some spirited driving right after doing that. When I's switching the hose, I did see some oil in one of the hose, probably not enough to show in the can?

appreciate your capturing oil vapors.

On our miniS, we collected 2-3 tablespoons every 3months and we drove that car hard.

It would help if the OCC had filtration material.

Last time I checked the BSH can has a "baffle" with filtering media in it.

Here is a pic of it from Redline Motorworks' FS thread:

If you're not hard boosting on / off you will not see much blow-by...

It is very probable that most of the oil vapor is not making it to the catch can due to the extended length of hose over what you have with the OE setup. So, basically it is collecting in the hose and running back the direction it came. I know that when I installed my BSH system that there wasa good coating of oil in the OE tube that was removed.

6 months/nothing and I drive 25,000 miles a year.

First and foremost this can desperately needs filtration material.

This can is a total bust.

same here. I check frequently and no oil yet. Probably only have 4k miles on it since the BSH OCC was installed. The car does not get babied either.

some cars may not suffer from the same degree of oil blow by as others. i've had my ar design catch can installed for over 2 months now, it's still dry. and i give my car plenty of WOT treatment.

Same experience here ... My RR OCC has oil coating inside the can but found no real drop of oil inside for more than 12 months of driving with spirited driving few times a week.

I think this is why BMW never installed the OCC since it is not necessary based on normal driving.

Does your OCC open up? My BHS doesn't! If so try inserting some filtration material (home depot steel wool will work fine). Fill the can but don't pack it in. Report back in 3 months.

I just have to figure out how I am going to get material in my dam can.

Few cars if any come with a OEM OCC.

RSD also has nothing after a month or so of "not normal" driving.

another interesting thing on my car is when i removed the factory intercooler, there was zero oil residue in it or the factory charge pipes. i've read on here and on e90post that people find a lot of oil when removing these items.

i really think some cars just don't suffer from the oil blow by that others do

I have lots of blowby oil in my IC and IC piping. I just received my BSH occ. I do alot of "spirited driving". I'll report back in a month or so.

No doubt cars differ as well as we all drive differently BUT considering the amount of miles I drive by now I should have collected something. Note: both my other cars (MiniS and EvoX collected and my driving style hasn't changed

As to the length of the tubing, any oil that accumulated or condensed in the line would get pushed into the can under spirited driving. Note: the MiniS tubing was at least equal length.

The fact that it sits over the turbos doesn't help but I don't believe is the key problem. The internal screen is just not enough in my opinion.

I'm gonna just have to open this sucker up, add material to prove my point or shut up.

^the ar design occ has a pretty decent filter in it, and i'm still not collecting any oil. in my opinion, i wouldn't hack up your bsh occ to add a filter.

I'm feed up w/ it. Last time I removed it I found more oil at the connection fittings than in the can. I have seen first hand the difference of collecting oil when the can is empty or contains filtration - night and day. Just to further aggravate me is the price of the can. Clearly, well made and great fittings but NO WORKIE!

We added one to my son's Evo - dinky little can (75 bucks) but had steel wool inside and traps oil beautifully. Same with the MiniS (125 bucks) - the can was similar to the RISS can - collected a bit, added filtration and collected a whole lot more.

How I became a believer in OCC was when I took the IC off the MiniS (top mount) and placed on end on the garage floor to do other work. When I went to reinstall the IC there was a little puddle of oil that had run out of the IC. Oil in the IC degrades its thermal efficiency. Living in Florida I need my IC to be optimum - I start my day heatsoaked ! lol

As i said before, when you drive your car hard (not just 'spirited driving' whatever that means) you will see collection, at least i do everytime i get back from the track. who knows, my intercooler could be full of oil too!!
