118d Traction Control Failure

This morning whilst on my way to work I went round a bend not particularly fast and the DSC warning light came on and stayed illuminated.

I pass by a BMW dealer on my way to work so stopped by to get the car checked out and to see if it was still safe to drive. They then told me that my DSC system had failed and the cost of a repair is over £1000

The car is on a 55 plate and has done 44,000 miles so is out of warranty, however I have read that there has been faults similar to this on 05-06 3-Series models but have not head of any on the 1-Series.

My question is, has anyone else had the same problem that can share their experience with me and help me out as to where I stand with BMW in terms of negotiating a repair why should I have to pay for their mistakes?

Thanks

Wouldmit be bad to just leave DSC disabled all the time? I know on some MINIs there was a little circuit board one could buy that did this automatically.

I usually drive with the DSC off but with the cold winter months coming up I would like to have the added security of having the system on, especially with Run Flat Tyres

For anybody's future reference, after complaining to BMW they offered to pay 80% towards the cost of the repair to the system. The total bill was £1,200, saved myself a fair few quid.
