Non-RFT - What do you keep in case of a flat?

My apologies if this is a noob question - but I've never purchased a vehicle that has RFT.

It appears most 1'ers that purchase aftermarket wheels also purchase non RFT replacements.

What does everyone do for 'protection' against flats? I've seen a small spare for the trunk solution - however that doesn't seem like a good option, since it takes up trunk space.

Please let me know your thoughts.

Cheers!

Garage List
For in-town...a roadside mobility kit (compressor, can of slime), plus a plug-kit and pair of pliers (needed to take the offending object out of the tire).

But, unless you have a jack, it's hard to work your magic with a plug kit or slime, as you still need to get the offending object out of the tread.

For out-of-town road trips, I put the spare in the trunk too.

Two big road trips on the car (AB to BC, WA, OR, & CA last year and AB to MT, WY, ID, UT, & CO this year)...and one flat. The above was handy, for even a cell phone wouldn't work where it happened.

I bought the BMW spare alloy/tire for a German spec 335i, 17" wheel. I also bought the jack kit BMW offers for our cars.

I just could not see myself being stuck somewhere without any way of getting back home. Esp when I drive all over Europe/Germany!

I didn't trust not having a spare with runflats anyways.

This wheel is not available in the US, due to it being non DOT approved, however I got one of these from a member returning to the US.

The only other options are from the dealer, or you can go with the LeatherZ spare.

http://leatherz.com/Merchant5/mercha...y_Code=all_E82

BAvarian Autp also has the spare.

Great feedback - thanks guys! Seems like the best solution is AAA card for day-to-day driving and the spare in the trunk for long trips.

Cheers!

FYI - changed my username. :-)
