I seriously doubt it will be anything substantial.I think it might be a software update which might do more damage [to the power] than avoid more failures.WTF does he mean by saying " questions from ABC News "caused us to decide to take action sooner, rather than later. When were they planning to address the issue "if" they had a plan?

Can someone slap this Baloga guy? They insist that you can still drive with a failure but there are numerous incidents where that is not possible.

It's interesting that the article states BMW found a fix for the HPFP issue back in March. Is that true?

the only thing it could be is:

933 pump
software reprogramming

those both came about around that time, but neither is a permanent fix.

it also said they wanted to test how the "fix" would react in the field. so i'm guessing everyone now will get a 933 pump and software reprogram. that'll be nice until the 933 pumps fail.

How many potential customers will BMW lose over this as the N55 and N54 are used in numerous configurations?

Probably not as many as you would think. I knew about the HPFP issue long before I bought my 1er, and it didn't detour me at all. Is it a PITA? Yes.

I have a 933 pump and reprogramming. Works beautifully.

What the ABC story is saying is "They have a problem, and are fixing it, extended the warranty and everything. It hasn't been a REALLY huge problem unless you get on the forums where everyone whines and complains about EVERY nitpicking thing on the car"

Reduced power in the BMW essentially turns it into a Kia. Kia is making great cars these days. I don't think their power level puts people in danger.

Disclaimer: I've driven my 135 in limp home mode. It isn't that bad actually, it's just you can't be cool and blow by everything doing the speed limit.

BMW owners tend to be the most whiny and cheap people on the face of the planet. This ABC story proves it.

"It was gonna blow up or something" WTF?

Hey, give her a break! She is just a poor innocent 25 year old that needed Daddy to buy her a bimmer. She didn't know that her life would be in danger and that it would go boom at some point...Wait, I see your point now

If there is a gap in fast moving traffic and you attempt to slot in and are suddenly dealing with almost no power you are in imminent danger of being rear ended. This is exactly what happened to me but I was lucky and the guy behind me slowed down in time. The car had 7k on it and was $46,600. Excuse me for whining but I've never had that problem on my 2 Infinitis, VW, Volvo, Saab, Nissan, 3 Toyotas, or Lotus.

I can empathize with her though. My parents let me drive a E30 325i when I was in high school...only difference was, that was in 1995 and it was a '88 model..LOL.

That is unfortunately the worst case scenario that you experienced right there. Most don't have this problem though. However, the very fact that what happened to you is a possibility should be the main reason for the recall.

I had my HPFP replaced twice(I was told that my current one is the re-design) and also I have received the new software. Power feels the same, however there is a more noticeable turbo-lag. Nothing that the JB3 map5 won't fix.

I should also add that I felt no difference in power with the software update and pump replacement. Felt the same as it did on delivery day.
