Thumbs up HPF 335i Progress

We've made some more progress on our 335i project. Once we finish the exhaust and single turbo system for the 335i, we will port it to the 135i. It's been a bit slow because of all the E46 M3 stuff we're doing.

We built a new engine dolly for the 335i, and a jig for the 335i exhaust. We also pulled this motor out so we can start designing the turbo system.

Chris.

Reminded me of a shrimp with it's head freshly pulled off.

Great to see proof that you guys are making progress! Your stuff is top notch, can't wait!

PLEASE select a newer turbo, in twin-scroll configuration, and make sure it is ball-bearing and water cooled!

Thanks.

Water cooled turbos don't help much. dual ballbearing turbos are cool, but we've actually seen the best performance from the new billet wheel technology. But not always. It really depends on the turbo.

Chris.
It was my understanding that the reason for water cooling, even on ball-bearing turbos, was to slow the breakdown of oil and allow for longer oil change intervals. Also, it must add some sort of longevity to the turbo, or no?

If y'all made a turbo kit with one of the new Borg Warner EFR or Garrett GTXR turbos you would be top of the line as far as technology!

I personally would choose a Borg Warner EFR 7670 for a stock internal
N54, should be good for 600whp+ and maintain excellent spool for it's size. You can even get it internal wastegate without compromising power, it can have an integrated diverter valve and electronic wastegate actuator, can be pre-tapped for a turbo RPM sensor, not to mention the various improvements they have made to the compressor wheel, ceramic bearings and turbine housing!

Here is some info: http://www.full-race.com/articles/bo...fr-turbos.html

We are finishing up the turbo manifold right now. The pictures below were taken a week ago. The head flange is quite complicated with how the turbo manifold seals to the head, but it is also quite ingenious. There are two ports leaving the collector to the wastegate which is a Tial 44mm VBand to ensure boost control is easily maintained. This turbo manifold fits all Precision T4 Performance turbos from a 67 to a 76. We will sell them separately for those that want to build their own custom turbo kit, but will also sell all the hardware to complete the turbo system.

Chris.
