Mass license plates...

Im kinda new to them, I always presumed the month on the plate was the month the car was registered.

I bought a new car today, the dealer got it in a lot swap so i didnt see it, the plate has August 2012 on it... that doesnt mean its been registered for 4 months or anything right?

I know my original plate for my 135 was march, but its november due to vanity.

Sorry for the dumb question.

Ignore the plate, look at the registration form.
