Thumbs up Update: No Limit on 1-series M Coupe Production Numbers. To end 1st Quarter 2012.

BIMMERPOST NEWS
Update: No Limit on 1-series M Coupe Production Numbers. To end 1st Quarter 2012.

COMMENTS

Contrary to earlier reports of a 2,700 unit limit on the 1-series M Coupe, based on new info from insider Scott26, it now appears that BMW will build as many 1M coupes as demand dictates during its production run, which will end in the first quarter of 2012. This is also consistent with what was expressed to the 1addicts members who participated in BMW's 1M coupe test drive event.

Yesterday's engine specs image shows a 3/11 date after the 1M coupe engine, which we believe may indicate the start of production as March 2011. If this is the case, the entire 1M coupe production run will span approximately one year.

Per Scott's post on GCF
Quote:
As for the BMW 1M Coupe , BMW will build models till the end of production to satisfy demand but production ends for the 1M by the first quarter of 2012.

Somebody forward this info to BMW Military Sales!
If it's not limited, then Military Sales needs to offer it!!!

Considering I have had my deposit down for some time now and I am No.1 at my dealer and virtually guaranteed a car, is this good news or bad news or doesn't it make the slightest bit of difference?

if this is the case, i wont worry about putting a deposit down to secure a spot.

question is, how many can BMW produce during the production period.

I would love to get one but my 135i lease isn't up until Sept 2012 so I'll completely miss this one. Oh well...

that is good news... Dealers have no reason to increase the price of the car...but I hope it doesn't sell like a 320i... i don't want to see it at every corner cause it will ruin it for me and am hugely conside for now!

To me it is actually bad news. I was hoping for a limited production run that would have a potential for an 'iconic' symbol say 2 decades later (similar to E30). Flooding the market with 1 ///Ms won't do buyers a favor, especially for people like me that would consider holding on to a 'special' car for a long long time. This was one of many reasons I opted for an RS4 instead of an M3 (e.g. total number of imported RS4s in the US over 2 yrs equaled 1/3 of annual sales of M3s which of course will be produced for 4-5 yrs).

For people that want to pick one up in the secondary market, this is good news, you will have plenty to chose from. And yes, dealers should not be in the driver's seat and have the pricing leverage if BMW builds as many as it wants. I just hope I don't start seeing as many 2012 1 ///Ms as Evos, STIs, R32s, etc.

2 million e30s were made from 1982 to 1994. 17,184 were M3s.
no idea what you are talking about.

As previous ppl have posted about Military Car Sales (ie Pentagon Sales, MCS), there looks to be little chance that the 1M will make it into the Miltary Sales program. Previous M cars like the Z3M and Z8(non M// but limited in production numbers) never were sold thru MCS.

I asked my local MCS agent in BA just this week about the 1M for Military Sales... here is what Simon had to say:

Hello David,

I have received absolutely nothing from our BMW Military Sales HQ regarding the 1M.

I asked about availability a month or two ago because I had a serious customer for the 1M, but the reply simply said that all military sales agents would receive an update at the same time, if any new models were being introduced to the military program.

If the number of units will be limited to ca. 3,500 for all markets, then I seriously doubt whether our program will get one single allocation (based upon previous limited production models).

Regards,
Simon

So... we will (Military Sales guys) will have to wait to see what BMW and MCS decides in March. I think the earliest would be in the mid summer (bc that is when US cars will hit the streets in the USA) to know IF MCS will offer the 1M// ???

How many of those are in the US, and most importantly, how many of those are still alive and in good condition?

You think the value of the 1 ///M N-years from now is not gonna be a function of whether 2,000 or 20,000 were made? That is what I am talking about.

This is what I also heard thru some German car guys in the "know". BMW M// will build as many as they can sell.

Also... it is a safe bet that BMW is already building 1M's at Leipzig right now. So... the production has already begun. Whether it is merely "zero production" or final production for customer cars is another matter. Remember the lucky twelve and Scott26 both have said that Leipzig factory tours are closed to the public right now. Becuase the 1M// is being built there on the "line".

So... that would mean BMW will produce 1M's from now until early 2012(ish). That is a lot of cars that "could" be built durring that time frame.

FYI: "zero production" is the first series of cars the factory produces to
tune" the assembly line and quality of the line production. Normally these "zero production" cars are for testing or journalists. Then they get crushed.

That would be... disappointing. Especially since Military Sales does good business on ///M cars. I've tried to find a Military Sales POC down in Munich that we can try to persuade, but no luck so far. Pam down here at Cars International already knows that, if the 1M hits their system, my deposit is ready

It would be messed up if THIS is the market that gets left out
