I'm with you on this - total spent on my 1er with stage 2 and BMW perf rims and I'm still $500 under the base price.. humm....

Also, my insurance will be cheaper .. with more HP/TQ

So, are they now limiting production again? I thought it was not but read another thread tonight that says limited?

If so, I am not touching one for a markup. If they're limited, they'll be marked up.

Not just for show. My dad has a 911 and I can't even come close to getting in the back, but I have ridden in the back of my 135i before. I am 5'11". Also, I have put friends back there for short trips and they have been fine. I wouldn't do a long trip back there, but otherwise they are perfectly functional for bumming around town.

And now theres a slow M model that can be beat by what im sure most here would consider an inferior Ford? Not to mention the Ford Mustang, while not quite half the price of the M is still substaintial cheaper. If your really want a performance car and not jsut the bragging rights on owning a BWM M car the the Ford wins.
No one cares to defend the M against some American Muscle?

I found this interesting:
Steering Transmission
1M - 12.5 : 1
135i - 16.0 : 1

That's quick.
I think that is comparable to the steering ratio of a Lotus Exige.
Hopefully it will feel better than the slightly lazy 135i.

The backseats are actually usable, I've sat in the back of my own car and I'm like 6"0'.

I can understand a little disappointment about the same motor being offered in the 335 is.
Simple, because at the time (at least around when I ordered my car) my local dealership was also a Dinan dealer and saw the 135i with a few choice Dinan pieces as a better alternative to the M3 in terms of price and performance. When I got a VIN number BMW completely cut ties with Dinan and I now had to wait for BMW to release their own performance parts. Now I'm at the point where BMW hasn't released any newer parts that could improve my performance further. Also I like the size of the 135i over the M3.

You obviously are not getting my point of you and are taking my comments as an attack of some sorts. Maybe if I met you in person you wouldn't come off as such a d'bag and the same goes for me. You got to test drive the car so I can see why you're defensive while I haven't. My posts might be long, but maybe if you read the whole thing you'd see where I'm coming from and understand that I quite like the 1M. I have read every post about the 1M from beginning to current so at least give me the same courtesy. You think this car doesn't need much power, that's awesome for you . . . really. As for me, if I do (and that's if) I will takeover from where BMW leftoff when it comes to engine performance. I have ridden in a 135i with front sway and that alone made a huge difference, I might not know how much better a full overhaul with LSD and some weight loss might feel like, but I have a pretty good idea.

I read your profile and background after your post on the test drive with the 1M so I know you have track experience. That's awesome again because it helps me really believe what you wrote about the 1M and how it made you feel. But tell me what is wrong with wanting a little bit more? I am not saying it needs more, but that I'd like more. You act like I am expecting this thing to have like over 500 HP or something. As some people have brought up, 360-380 HP would have been acceptable number. About this whole paradigm shift in M and its motors, that is all cool, but this is the first time M has half-assed an engine and a lot of people are shocked and you're surprised as to why. You drive an E30 M3 as noted on your avatar, well that engine supposedly took 14 days to make, BMW has had over a year. Personally I would have been happier with a four cylinder version of the S65 even if it only it made 200 HP, was light, and would be rev happy. M is handling, but its also kind of like a silent bragging right in terms of the power and engineering behind their engines. If you can't see that difference then there is no point trying to explain further.

PS-M3Adjuster I am not trying to pick a fight with you or anyone for that matter. We're here because we're interested in someway by this new car and that's awesome. But this is an open forum with a lot of differing opinions and feelings to certain aspects of this car. So take my opinions/comments for what it is worth and don't think much else into it. I haven't test driven this car, which is clearly evident, but I am basing my opinion on what I do know and coming from a 135i with the same engine and a few more mods I think I have some say on how I feel towards the 1M and my car in its current state.

Again if I didn't have my 135i or with the mods on it now, I'd be all for wanting a 1M in my driveway. But I have experienced the power side of things and it was awesome for about a week. You got to test drive the 1M . . . how about living with it for a bit longer than that? Your opinion on the power might change. As BMW stated themselves "they engineered a chassis faster than the engine." How long do you think most people will be satisfied with the current output once they've become accustomed to it. Handling and braking performance is great for a car and that's why I'd like to improve that aspect of my current car more. My car doubles as a daily driver so I don't do so much cornering and braking on my 40 mile roundtrip commute from home to work everyday. It's times like that I would like even more oomph (when the roads are clear of course). When the weekend comes though I abuse the hell out of it on my favorite mountain road and once I replace my wheels with ARC-8s will be returning back to autocross. Would it have been too hard for BMW to make the M button up the boost for that little bit more power everyone wants? The M5/M6 had such an option and it was a difference of 100 HP. I'm only asking for another 30HP, I don't think I'm being too greedy.

Simply different strokes for different folks.

I've driven the mustang gt, and I would take my 135i every time.

Don't like the stang's ass, and don't like the feel of the steering. (Handles pretty well, but something just doesn't click. I am curious of the Boss 302LS edition, if it was really good I could maybe put up with the butt.)

The 1M is (I hope) more of what I like - handling.

What is it that someone said - All the fun happens between 50 and 120 (mph) anyway.

No, most probably have better things to do with their time. Also, its "intents and purposes," not "intensive purposes."

Loving this 1M and I'll probably be scavenging the market for one in a few years if they're around!

Can someone recap the differences between this car and a standard 135 for me?

The Good
1. N54 from Z4 35is
2. M LSD
3. Wider track and tires
4. Alcantara interior and M steering wheel
5. Shorter steering ratio
6. Suspension components from M3
7. Better cooling
8. Body kit
9. No sun roof
10. Mechanical seats
11. No RFTs
12. Balanced
13. Faster
14. Key on the trunk
15. Interior makes the 135 look like shit

The Bad
Heavier brakes that aren't that good
Over priced
Lower MPG
Heavier
Less potential without DCT option

& The Ugly
Crease with a missing air duct
Fake air duct in the rear
Cop magnet
Proportions
Wheels are to big
Quad pipes are just a show piece
Orange

What am I forgetting? This would have such a dream if only it had 360-370 Hp..
instead it's an awesome car that is hard to justify over a CPO E92 M3 for the same money
OK, so get a 96 911 for 45k.

Interior is money, although in this enthusiast-oriented model they should have offered the cloth/leather option (base M3 seats).

Exterior - I absolutely love the brashness, especially so in orange.

Handling - I'm sure it will be very very good (like a lighter M3, I'd expect).

Engine? Not fully convinced, I need to drive it.

All in all, I like it - but perhaps not enough to trade my sedan in for it.

Hey BMW, if you had any balls this 1M would have 350+ HP and have it rape everything else. But No, we can't step on the M3's toes so it is is just another ho-hum wannabe. Booooring!

I understand everyone has their opinions. I love BMWs, Ive driven a E36 and E46 M3 and they are amazing cars and owned the competition and nothing could come close for the money. But now The Mustang GT Handles just as well around a track as the E92 M. And 50-120? How can you beat the instant torque of a V8??

Like I said above I love Ms but I always thought the intents of the M models was to be a street legal race that could hold its own with cars costing quite bit more. I read the article about the E36 M3 running with every other sports car offer while costing a fraction of the price. BUT NOW! it looks like the Ms are the one with the hefty price tags with the competition right on its heels.

I always thought the "intents and purposes" of the M models were to be the baddest street legal car you could get. BMW has already brought the M3 away from its roots. I had hope the the 1M would bring them back and replace the over weight over sized M3 as the got all around sports coupe but it doesn't seem to be the case.

Kinda wish that BMW dressed up the engine bay just a little (other than the Powered By BMW plaque). Something like a carbon fiber intake would've been nice.

I still want one and plan on buying it (price permitting). All in all, thumbs up to BMW for making this car.

I think it's MEAN looking! It could've used a "more-fun" engine though. If I was BMW, I would've resurrected the e46 M3, M coupe engine and decked it out. Absolutely a waste of money and probably impossible, but what else do they really have right now besides the e90 M3's V8? The other engine was a SCREAMER!
