Angry Hit HUGE pothole, now rear suspension is grinding and clanking.

So i was driving and hit some sort of large pothole going about 50-55. Afterwards i began to hear a slight grinding, like something was rubbing against the road. Got out and checked and nothing is touching the ground. It sounds like some sort of rubbing, along with some loud clanks coming from the rear suspension. Also after going over some more bumps, backend gets pretty squirley and i lose traction for a few seconds. Any ideas? calling BMW tomorrow but was just wondering what everyone thinks it could be? Thanks in advance for the input

Find the pot hole, take a picture and go to the municipality that maintains the roads. File a claim with them and they most likely will pay the damage. There is no way a public road should damage your car.

Was it in California? I swear they have the worst roads I have ever driven on. Worse than 3rd world countries.

busted shock makes sense, as when i was going over bumps afterwards, the back end almost fishtails and loses traction. Set up an appointment with BMW for the 27th, will post the details after. Thanks for the input everyone.

if you can, go back to the spot, park with your hazard lights on, and call the police.

get yourself a police report. then, file a claim with city hall. its a pain in the neck, and you might not win, but its worth a a shot.

i did the same thing and won. 2 new bbs rxii 18x8.5 & 2 new so3's.

This same sort of thing happened to my friends 330i. Cracked rim, blown tire, maybe broken shock. The bill was ~$900 IIRC. HE got a police report, filed a claim, and the city made the construction company pay his repair bill in full. I would definitely check into some sort of compensation.
