BMW 1M Dual-Mass Flywheel & Tuning
I realised that 1M has a DMFW which is tuned to specific engine load.
Since I'm planning to install a cold air intake and a full exhaust system (downpipe to mufflers), I'm afraid the Flywheel wouldn't take the increased load and the torque curve. Does any one have a car with DMFW and have tuned it and have no issues? Second, I know intake & mufflers wouldn't void the warranty if it weren't proven to the cause an issue, but would installing aftermarket downpipes void the warranty? |

I think most of today's cars have a dual-mass flywheel. It helps to keep the chatter down and absorb vibration. The 1M's unit is just a lighter weight version and shouldn't have a problem taking on additional torque.
You've got to have a very understanding service department to get a way with a warranty issue like a HPFP failure or any engine related problem with aftermarket downpipes installed. Normally, changing anything with a sensor in it or having an affect on a sensor is a no-no.

I highly doubt you'll find an issue with the flywheel.
My old '05 ZHP had a DMFW and I made 352whp w/ a blower, equal length headers and exhaust @ 10.5 psi; the flywheel never had any issues, ever. I'm hoping a titanium exhaust makes its way out for the 1M, that could be a good time. ![]()
