Long trips on non-sport seats = pain?
My 135i came with non-sport seats (bought used), and I'm planning a trip to Florida soon. Will I need a chiropractor appointment when I get there, or should I be ok? Any experiences on long trips with these seats? I don't have any back problems, and would probably sleep after about 12 hours of driving to recover.

yes this is one of the biggest regret i have about buying my car. I should of got the the one with sport seats. These seats are fucking awful. How inthe world did they think that they were ok to put in any car is beyond me.

Well I have the sport seats with the 8 way electic adjustable stuff and I've got to say they're probably not that much more cofortable and I've taken 12 hr trips in them.

Last time my car was serviced I drove a 328i loaner without sport seats. While not as nice as the sport seats in my 135i, they were comfortable and much better than Mustang seats.

I haven't taken a long drive in a 1-series with sport seats, but I did it in a 335 with sport seats. Honestly, it was brutal. 3 hours or less, the sports seats are money, but I drove 3 days from Mississippi to Las Vegas - we did this when we moved back out here. To make things worse, my daughter was in her rear-facing seat so one of us was always in the back with her. The rear seats were even worse for a long drive. When I ordered the 335 my daughter wasn't born.

Juat remember to take everything out of your pockets..
phone / wallet / keys etc etc you will be a whole lot more comfy... also on long trips in my OTB ( other than BMW) i roll a towell and put it in the crease of the seat... it makes a world of difference.. it feels funny at first but then it contours to your butt/back... Other than that use cruise move your legs around and you should be fine.. the seats arent that bad.... but any long sitting position tends to get uncomfortable.. Have a safe drive... shiny side up ![]()

We don't have the sport seats in our 135i, and honestly, they're more comfortable on longer drives. Sure they suck at the track or when driving aggressively, but for longer drives, they're actually very comfortable. My M Coupe seats are much more aggressive, but painful for trips over three or four hours.
I also agree that taking everything out of your pockets will make things better in either seat. |

If you want a DIY to make your seats more comfortable, I found this over at e90

why would sport seats be better for long cruises....? I don't understand... I have both sport and non-sport (128i and a 328i) and for long trips I have to say the regular seats are more comfortable...

I've done 8,000 mile trips in both a Z3 & Z4 which had standard seats as well as in my 128i and E46 328i with sport seats. At the end of the day, there is very little difference - they are all very comfortable.
The only issue might be for someone very broad of beam who does not fit well within the sport seat's bolsters. They should probably opt for the standard. And if anyone else suffers from herniated discs as I do, I'd recommend the ZPP (whichever seats you chose) as it contains the lumbar option. Tom |

I agree completely. The non-sport seats are less confining. I had them in my 135i. If you are a bigger guy, don't even bother with the sport seats.

I learned very quickly to start carrying my wallet, iTouch, etc in my jacket or front pockets which makes the ride much more comfortable. I think the seats are very comfortable. I haven't taken the car on more than a 2 hour drive though.
