120k miles on 128i

Hey guys I was hoping to get some input on a potential addition to my garage. There is a 128i with just shy of 120k miles for sale locally for me, and I was just curious what possible issues I would have at this mileage. It's a 2008, 1 owner car with a full service history. He purchased the 100k service extension, and had everything replaced during his 100k inspection. I have been looking for common issues but it seems like the N52 is just overall pretty great and does a good job holding up even past 100k miles.

Any feedback would be awesome - and things to look out for and check would e fantastic as well. Thanks!

Ok so it had a 100K inspection done 20K miles ago. I'd say as long as all of the "other" fluids have been changed (steering, tranny, differential, coolant) that you're good to go for quite a while. I would make sure spark plugs have been changed too.

That is awesome to hear, he said that spark plugs were changed at about ~95k or so. All fluids and pads have been changed in the past 20k miles. How has the clutch held up until now? Most of these miles were highway, and it is original clutch -- any idea when that might need changing for you? Overall this is good to hear

Edit: I have to actually check the docs he sent me, not sure if it was 95k or not (may have been later than that).

mine just flipped 100k last week; i have owned it since 24k. trans fluid/filter/gasket changed 5k ago; oil pan, oil filter, valve cover gaskets, coolant flush, plugs about 10k ago; brake fluid every couple years; AA tune, k&n installed in march. car runs great... no issues. plan to get another 100k out of it.

will go to oil changes once in spring, then in fall and trans fluid every 50k.

Well the feedback seems pretty strong in favor of the purchase. The price is absolutely right. I do however wonder if it's worth the extra for the 135. Right now though, the price is just way way way cheaper than the next 135 and this is a 1 owner car.
Are you still on stock clutch? No issues there?

Biggest issue is, it would seem the N52 is more reliable than it's brother the N54.

The N52 and 128i are pretty much bullet proof. As long as the services were done on time and there hasn't been any accidents to the car, it should serve you well for many years.

Will do, I need to do a few touch ups though beforehand. This was a heavily used daily driver so some buff and painting will need to be done. I'll get pics up soon though!

Thanks for the input everyone!

This hasn't been mentioned yet, but I would check whether or not the water pump/thermostat has been replaced yet. If not, they will need to be soon. The other things that may need addressing (if there are oil leaks) are the gaskets: OFHG, valve cover, and potentially the oil pan.

In any case, congrats on finding your next e82, and do post pics!

Not an issue with the 128i. Check this thread http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=798195
Over 720 replacements reported and not one 128i. I'm sure some have failed though. I'm guessing the failures are heat related because I believe it's the same set up.
