Any 128i buyers regret not getting a 135i?

According to this forum, I drive the most "un-enthusiast" BMW made, a 128 with an automatic transmission. All I know is that when I'm "tracking" my car on the 110 North through downtown Los Angeles at 7:00 AM and again at 4:00 PM, I'm as fast as any Porsche Turbo S, Ferrari, Lambo or GT-R.

I could have paid for a 135, but since I'm such a huge prima donna, and don't want to purchase a new car with problems, I did research on the 135, and I found a huge about of complaining on this forum about the fuel pump, and it made me decide on the 128.

Just as a side note... two weeks ago, I was stuck on the 78 East down in San Diego County behind a McLaren MP4-12C doing 55mph in the number 1 lane, but I guess that is what true "enthusiasts" are allowed to do.

I would argue the most un-enthusaist bmw would be a 5 series gt ^_^. Our cars are great daily drivers ! When you can't wait to drive your car everyday you know something is right

I agree.. This thread provides a good laugh. Back on topic!. I have NO NO NO regrets about my 128 except for I wished it handled a bit more like my 318ti. That's it.

I just love the notion that we can't afford the illustrious 135i. The 911 Turbo is certainly more expensive and faster than the GT3 in a straight line, yet the people who chose the GT3 aren't doing so for cheapness.

Some of us are more than willing to be slower in a straight line(the most talentless/dull form of speed) for a car that is 230+ lbs lighter and won't break down nearly as often.

Completely agree! I am perfectly happy living in my fantasy world too. My 128 is plenty fast enough for me. I don't generally engage in red-light racing, but I have zero issues getting in front of someone when the need arises.

Orlando must be pretty desolate too. I guess we can't all be so lucky like others.

Well, arguably in my area it is. Largest Porsche dealer by volume in the Northeast US is ~3 miles away.

Doing it myself with some local buddies/brother who are rather talented in this area.

First of all. Its NY-C6. I live in NY and own a Corvette C6. And display a pic of my cars underneath. How exactly is 'Stig' connected to you personally in any possible way?

The difference in weight between the 128/135 coupe is 121lbs not your imaginary, grossly inflated 230+.

The 128 doesnt perform as well in a straight line, doesnt do the skid pad any faster or slalom at higher speed or is any quicker on a track(given equal drivers) and doesnt brake as well as the 135 with its large Brembos. So where exactly does the 128 excel? Other than nominal increased mileage and lower buy in price that is. I dont know of one performane parameter where it tops the turbo cars. Comparing the 128 to a GT3 to make an irrational point is just nucking futs.

My 2010 135 has been trouble free in 2 1/2 years of ownership.
I said many times before, I like the 128 but some of you guys throw out a bunch of fantasy BS I gotta call you on it.

For the wildly exciting tale of my forum name, I started watching Top Gear in 2003 or 2004 before many in the US watched it. Forum name was to more easily facilitate discussion between fellow enthusiasts of the show, which it did well. Also got the license plate at the same time for the same reason at car meets and such. Riveting tale I know.

If I had thoughts that I was some variety of steller superstar driver who needed a bespoke performance machine I wouldn't be in the 128i or 135i. Both are soft from that perspective.

Not according to reputable people actually weighing them. And that is a 2008 128i that had the sunroof standard, I personally went without for even more weight savings.

I wasn't comparing the 128 to the GT3, I was further responding to your idiotic post previously that turbo cars like the GT2 and such are always the best choice because they have more power.

Given equal suspension and tire upgrades, the lighter car will be the more nimble one.

And yes, your wonderful "Brembos" on the track. Ignoring the fact that they fail utterly when subjected to track driving. Crumbling pistons and melted rings, count me jealous of your great brakes.

And when you get a chance, please do write up what you did to make your 128 get 268 hp. I'm sure there will be more than a few of us 128 owners interested in it.

US market only gets the 128i and 135i. Well, and the 1M was sold here, of course. And we will get the 135is, if you want to count that as a separate model.

I think that might be a big optimistic. I suspect those together would give 20hp max, and more likely 10-15hp. I've yet to see before and after dynos.

truth be known......I also own a 2006 Cayenne S and oddly enough it can carry as much speed though a corner as the 1er...Hands down the best grand touring vehicle I have ever driven (strike that the loaner Panamera 4S was better). A definite keeper even if the maintenance approaches E60 M5 range. It carries 5 Pax plus luggage down the autobahn at 90-110 up and down hills & does not break a sweat.

@ Bob its going to retire to the SA area in November 2013

But I still prefer the 1er because ripping off a good heel toe cant be beat.
