No sir, I just drove my 135 up here. 950 miles in two days and drive it the 70 miles roundtrip from the hotel to the courthouse every single day, and 50 of the 70 miles is two lane twisties, the best part of my day!

I like this car a lot but I can't help but think that it would have been nice if BMW had offered the N52 in the 128i with 255HP like the E90 330i or Z4. I'm also slightly jealous of the later European 330i with 270 HP though I'm not sure if having to go direct injection with all its supposed problems would be worth it.
Sadly now that the N/A inline 6 is being retired it sounds like we will never have a factory option to experience 270HP on this engine. More like inline 4 turbo with a chip . |

Like 5.9 seconds zero to 60 is slow? 98% of the people on this board (myself included) dont even have the skills to drive a 128i at it's full potential. I agree with Mike Miller the 128i equipped with the manual transmission is the best car BMW makes.

I've driven my 128i sport with a SSK as a daily driver for about 25000 miles now. Its a great car--very well balanced in terms of power, braking, and handling. In the recent past, I've had a Z-28 and a GTO, as daily drivers, and a '71 Z-28 that ran hi-12s on street tires. It took me awhile, but it was rare that I laid into the Z-28 and GTO, a risky as far as safety and law enforcement. I decided that while fun, and American iron is really fun, I just didn't need or want a car that fast. The 128i is just fast enough--and alot of fun. Best car I've ever had. No desire at all for a 135.

I've been loving my 128i, the only regret I have is that I didn't get a car with xenons. These halo lights look so damn ugly, but other than that I love the car and it's plenty fast for me.

Have you driven a 1M? I'd say that is the best car BMW currently makes.

No I have not...and I secretly pined for one however, for the cost of a 1M I could have had 2 each 128i (at the price I paid). With the money "saved" I spent a week in northern Italy (including Venice), Bavaria, & Austria ![]()

For the longest time I tried to convince myself that I didn't regret it and made the right choice with the 128i.
Two months ago my dealer called and said they had a 1M allocation if I was interested. Traded in the 128i and picked up the 1M two weeks ago. Best decision I ever made. |

No, in fact we liked our used '08 enough to get a brand new 2012 128i, but this time with the options we wanted most and within budget.

Buy the 135i! You will regret your decision sooner than later. For those who say you don't need 300hp, they are in denial. Who doesn't want that extra boost of power and speed when you need it? Better to have it and not use it then need it or want it and not have it available. The 135i is everything the 128i strives to become, so don't settle for less.

Just purchased a 2011 CPO 128i with 6MT and sport package. I drove a 2008 335i coupe with 6MT also to get a feel for what I'd be missing by not getting the 135i. Yea, the turbo is quicker, but not enough in my mind and for what I want to justify the extra expense and potential maintenance issues (HPFP). The 128's naturally aspirated 6 revs great and is plenty quick. I had a new 95 M3 back in the day - the power and weight specs are very close to the 128.
Also, to get a new one of either model with a manual transmission, I'd have to order one. The CPO 128 was in stock and has about 5 years and 90k miles of warranty, so that helped, too. The only criticism I have with the stock 128 set up is the lack of initial throttle response, which I'm sure could be remedied with a tune. I notice it most when trying to match revs on a down shift. Just wish BMW had a tune so it wouldn't compromise the warranty. Another factor influencing my decision to go with a 128 as opposed to the 135 is that I also have a Boss 302, so I can get my power fix there if needed. Last edited by SC128; 12-24-2011 at 09:16 PM. 135vs128
You really need to put the features side by side to truly understand what extras you are paying for with the 135 and consider any mods you will likely make on the 128 over time which you wouldn't make if you had the 135i.

Btw, I know the 135i has plenty off flash tunes available that will give you ~80 hp boost. Do similar options exist for the 128i?
