Question about ipod adapter

Ok I'm 7-8 days away from getting my e90. So I wanted to get everything before hand and the first thing was the adapter for the ipod. I have NAV on my e90. NOw I was going to order this.

http://store.sik.com/merchant.mv?Ses...egory_Code=AAi

Do I need anything on top of this? Like any other wire ? From the photo it seems I would need a male/male wire? WOuld this by itself fit the aux input ?

Or I was considering this

http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProdu...duct_ID=149006

but in this case I know I need to but more stuff and its more costly.

Thanks in advance. Any other suggestions are welcome to. I tried to search but could not find specific answers to my questions.

i have never seen anyone use this, the charger part might be too tall. i would go wit the monster one, its like 10 bucks more and its been proven here to work well, do a search, you will find the thread

I use this one: http://www.sik.com/ram_din.php
And this one: http://www.monstercable.com/productPage.asp?pin=2132

The one you show has the advantage of one iPod connection, but you'll still have to get the 1/8"-1/8" audio cable. I chose the two above because I like the single right-angle audio 1/8" direct to iPod, and also it's not good to charge the device constantly. When mine needs charging I switch to the charger and a separate cable.

That said, the one you've selected will work nicely too.

If you use the Belkin charger you only have ONE wire going to the Ipod.

A small aux cord plugs into the base of the charger, not up by the ipod.

Costs same as Monster.

Got mine at CompUSA.

noflash - how does it fit clearance wise? Does the armrest cover close OK with the charger there?

This is great guys for all the info. Now why do u say charging all the time is not good..does that affect the battery life.... bcos if this is the case I think your solution is the best since all others while charge the ipod all the time....

Also I was looking at your solution. So the cord on the charger hooks into the 6-pin FireWire port (female) on the ram din ??? Is that right ?

I got the Belkin and it works like a charm. They're being auctioned on eBay for about 5-6 bucks apiece. The audio cord that plugs into the unit and to the AUX port can be purchased at radio shack.

Sound is great. Wish they carried forward the e46 integration with Ipod.

You definitely want the Belkin. Here's why:

•Only one cable into the armrest (from the power adapter, you need a short mini to mini cable, available at radio shack)
•Adjustible volume to raise the input level (which you WILL need)
•It FITS the e90
•It's available in BLACK:

My iPod Solution

Here's my iPod solution.

1. I bought the Monster Cable through eBay for $32 delivered.
2. Bought a 6 ft. audio cable from Target for $5. I couldn't find a shorter cable.
3. Routed the audio cable inside the coiled power cable. I had to splice to shorten the audio cable because it was too long.

I normally have the iPod laying on the passenger seat while I'm driving and hidden when I have the car parked.

I also found out that it is best to connect from the audio output from the power cable vice the audio output on the iPod so you don't have to adjust auxillary volume input settings.

I've had problems on my e90 with the Belkin autokit. Too much hum/distortion. Think it had to do with the power outlet. Tried 2 identical Belkin autokit and both gave the same results. I've used the Belkin autokit on my other car, and it had no problems, so it might be specific to the e90. I am using a 4G ipod (no photo). You might get different results from different versions of ipod.

A quick comparison can tell you whether there is a problem. First, connect up Belkin, and have your ipod play a track through it. Then remove the connection to the Belkin, and plug the input via the headset jack. If the audio from the headset jack sounds better than the Belkin line-out approach, there is a problem.

Ended up going with a purely line-out approach (SendStation PocketDock Line Out USB) and it sounds great!!! Only thing is that it does not include charging.

No hum/distortion with my Monster Cable using the audio out on the charger.

The audio out on the actual iPod also didn't have any hum/distortion but I had problems adjusting the auxillary input levels to match with the radio and cd player volume levels.

That's good to know. Could the line amplifier on the belkin which is distorting due to dirty power supply. Maybe I should give the Monster Cable a try.

There is no hum on the e90 with the Belkin for me with my 3G or my wife's 4G iPod. Sound quality is excellent. The Line is silent.

Perhaps your car is defective.

I would go with monster. IMO belkin products are cheaply made, I have never had a good experience with their products.

But Belkin has one cord!

Monster has two!!

That sold it for me. My Belkin sound great and what's to break? It's a cord?!?!

To each his own. I love my setup (and I am afraid of monsters!).

I'll have to take a pic. Sit's perfectly below the shifter. I have one of those sticky suits for my ipod and it couldn't fit better.

Could very well be. Never tried the ipod setup in another e90.

I have use the belkin setup before on my other car, and it is a really sweet solution with only 1 cable, and hooks up nicely to the ipod. Unfortunately it did not work in my e90.

Do you guys have i-drive/Nav as well? Wonder if it's sharing the same power source.

I use the Belkin cord with no audible sound defects with iDrive/Nav. Great solution in my opinion.
