First BMW 1M Coupe Commercial

BMW UK has launched the first commercial for 1-series M coupe, which recently went on sale in England. The commercial features a valencia orange 1M coupe on some empty twisties in the countryside poised to swallow up some tarmac, followed by some serious driving. It's rare to see tire smoke, much less drifting, in a BMW commercial, so the 1M is clearly being advertised by BMW as a model for serious driving enthusiasts.

One interesting thing seen in the video is the engine plaque denoting 1 of 450. Unlike the US, the UK will receive a set limit of 450 1M coupes, so UK customers' 1Ms will each receive this plaque indicating what # of 450 they have received.

The commercial may have just hit the airwaves, but we've already had some UK members take delivery:

if i understood correctly the US models dont have the "1 or X" identifiers on them do they? If not that kind of sucks...

Just to ensure our friends in other geographies don't get an unrealistic view of how commercial television in the UK workds, I really don't think this is a commercial that will be "hitting the airwaves". At 1:40 it is 1:10 longer than a typical UK (oh, yeah, the car is available to buy in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, as well as England ;-) ) TV ad.

It's clearly designed a a promo item, not an ad. In my opionion. Of course, if I see it on ITV tonight in the Coronation Street adverts, I'll come back and let you all know :-)

sounds like some gran turismo music and the camera angles remind me of it as well. every car drifts in slow mo these days on TV but you can tell this ones got some power getting it sideways with all that smoke

If you're referring to the 1 of 450 plaques that the UK cars get, US 1Ms won't get anything like it because the total number of US 1Ms is still undetermined.

It's a UK only plaque that (IIRC) goes on the center console near the ashtray/cubby.

I know it was closed road and all but it's always a good idea to show good driving habits, not weaving across lanes and not signaling.

BMW marketers are masters at this, making everyone believe that the car is 'limited' & special etc. (no doubt it is a special car) Time will tell, but my bet is that there will be extended production to 2013 :-)
