Photoshoot: BMW 1M Coupe Poses With Its Muse - the E30 M3
BIMMERPOST NEWS BMW 1M Coupe Poses With Its Muse - the E30 M3 The inspiration for the BMW 1M coupe is said to be drawn from the E30 M3. BMW likes to say that the 1M is the spiritual successor to the original M3. In fact, all of the engineers who worked on the 1M coupe were required to drive and become familiar with the E30 M3 during development. That's how much BMW wanted the 1M coupe to emulate the E30 M3's original spirit, while of course also accommodating for current safety required designs, customer wants, and reasonable build price. The two designs also share some common styling elements, such as aggressively flared fenders, a boxy design, upright seating position, and an overall pugnacious look. Following our recent press test drive of the 1M coupe at Willow Springs (more on that later), we had an opportunity to ogle and photograph Alex Palevsky's (Bimmer Magazine contributing editor) beautiful alpine white E30 M3 and pose it next to an alpine white 1M coupe. For those who have or will experience the 1M, it is no longer sacrilege to hear these two cars mentioned together or posed together to suggest their spiritual connection. Alex's E30 M3 is a beauty and is as clean an example as I've seen, even with 144k miles under its legs. Thanks for giving us some lens time with your baby Alex! |

I love both of them. Both great in their times and will always be great imo. E30 just keeps getting more and more classic.

Interesting about how they had the engineers drive the classic as a model.

I've been seeing a Gray/Charcoal E30 every morning this week on the way to work. It looked awesome and in perfect condition.

The 1M is a beast, for sure, but I'd still rather have a like-new E30 M3! I'm not a fan of the E30 in general, but I think that the first M3 really embodies what ///M is all about, more than any ///M car since.

You rang?
Had it since 1997. Saw it on the lot of a small Ford dealership. The schmoe traded it in on a Taurus. Because of how rare they are, the dealership did not even have accurate pricing for it. I stole it from them. I daily drove it for two years, then retired it to pleasure car / enthusiast toy where it has been ever since. She has 181k miles, but has a clean bill of health and still pulls very strong! Her stable mates are an '02 325xi and an '02 M3. |

Yes! This is exactly what has been running through my dreams. Can't wait till my AW arrives and I do a shoot of both the cars together. Curious as to how many e30 M3 owners have ordered a 1M. I've had mine for quite sometime and will be with me till the grave. It's such a pure experience driving the twisties up north.
Pics of mine below... Amit
