i had zero issues with my 8500 x50, saved my ass so many times i can't even begin to tell you. I hard wire mine into the over head lights, in my old car. Alot of having a radar/laser detector is knowing how to use it properly, setting it up, and not driving like a complete ass hat.

hard wired means you can usually mount it higher and out of view, espically without the cord pulled accross your dash..

although the best position for a detector with rear facing abilities shoud be some where near the center of the windshield to get a clear view foward and backwards.
