After telling Matthew Russell, BMW's M brand manager for North America, that I miss the screaming peaky race motor sensation, he offered the following helpful advice: "Shift."
Excellent German kind of answer! Motor Trend, the magazine trusted by "tools."

Okay, I have been waiting for the US Magazines reviews but if they are as bad as this one I'll pass. Did he actually say anything worth remembering?

I still recall, years ago, when MT was caught selling the "Car of the Year Award" to the high bidder. They admitted that they asked each of the major manufacturers, "if we give your car the COTY award, how many pages of advertising will you buy this year?" But they said it was only "for planning purposes," and had no impact on their decision. Yeah, sure. I cancelled my subscription, and never bought it again.

It's kind of like the Golden Globes awards. That's run by a group that calls itself the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn., but it turns out that most of the original members had little to do with journalism. Most worked for obscure rags, or online "press," and often only part time. Some were refirgerator repairman, etc. They were really just a bunch of startstruck fans who sought to give themselves legitimacy. They'd go to major studios and say, "If we give your star a 'Best Actor' award, will you fly us all out to Hollywood for a meet-and-greet?" It was well known in the industry that this was a complete sham, but why would anyone complain? It's another award.
The Assn. jealously guarded it's little scam, literally refusing to admit legitimate journalists. The whole thing blew up in about 2004, when it became public. The Assn. agreed to clean up its act, allow legitimate press to join, and base the awards on legitimate criteria. Did they? Who knows? I'll certainly never watch it.

COTY, hillarious. I remember decades ago when the Caprice Classic was named COTY. My first thought was WTF! Granted I drove one for a few years (father's car). He has since seen the light, drives an E90 now

Yeah. don't ya just love reading all these great reviews. AW May 2011 issue. Car & Driver May 2011 issue.
Then you call your local BMW dealer looking to buy a 1M coupe and get this: "Sorry sir we only had an allocation of one" What a joke. BMW makes a great car.... and you CAN'T BUY IT. ... sorry I needed to get this off my chest. |

Keep searching... there are cars out there.... and there are people on waiting lists out there that are getting impatient and dropping off the list... if you are willing to decicate a few days to it making calls... you can likely find a car. |

Not everyone want's a pre-built car or is willing to deal with buying a car out of state, nor do they want to give a dealer and additional $5 - $10K above MSRP.
