Has anyone has anyone hit the speed limiter?
Just out of curiosity, has anyone know of or heard of anyone hitting a speed limiter in a 1M. I just happen to be in a 1M when the speedometer hit 165 with no hint of a limiter. That's 6.5% over 155, which is when the limiter is supposed to kick in. So it could be speedometer error. But then again, I would expect speedometer error to be 3-5% max.

What gear were you in? The limiter doesn't seem to be there in any gear but 6th. Mine has been exorcised electronically but I haven't had a chance to test it again. I suspect it will pull to 185.
Edit. Now that I'm putting out more power due to the tune I'd guess more like 190. Aero resistance at these speeds is the wall but the way it pulled to an indicated 179 I wouldn't be surprised to get 190 with a good run. Next time I do it I'll run a GPS app to get the most accurate (and proof) number. No, I will not say where I do this but I will say it's a 3 mile straight with 4 lanes and no traffic. I'm the only one at risk...but it is deer season. ![]()

The biggest problem with our e82's is that the hood starts to peel back at high speeds. It looks like hood lifts up at the front corners at about 140 mph and up. I have seen Nicks are when we have driven side by side... and you'd swear the hood was adjar/open. But it is not. Just the design of our 1er's. The second biggest problem is the short wheel base and the skippy ride at high speeds. THIS for me... is what took some time getting use too. As far as the 1M goes... BMW says they have a speed limiter... but I would not be surprised IF it is set a little bit North of 155 mph. There is kind of a secret unspoken (speed)war going on over here. While publicly the all car manufactures (except Porsche - they do not have any speed limiters) agree to a 155 mph (250 kph)electronic speed limit... Audi has always said there RS models are limited to 280 kph. And on BMW //M models... you can pay a Zentrum over here ($$$$) to increase the 250 kph limiter up to 280 kph. On some //M models - over 300 kph on a stock motor is quite possible. Dackel |

i am not into high speed driving anyway - like emmdrei once wrote: for all i care the car could max out at 200kmh ![]() admittedly i have seen up to 290kmh in some of my old cars if only for a few seconds when nobody else was around while driving on the german autobahn i cant help but wonder about those many people max out their cars in medium traffic - just think of all the "i dont watch the rearview mirror people" changing lanes? ![]() anyway, but that observation with the hood is really weird?!
