Help me ID this part: "Halter Magnetstift" - 61316906786?

So just took delivery of my (new to me) 1M and noticed this plastic clip stuck to the windshield below the driver's side wiper. It is BMW 61316906786 which shows up as Halter Magnetstift or "magnetic pin holder".

It doesn't look to be any kind of functional in the state my car is in so was curious if its left over from delivery or uninstalled option.... ?

My car had one in the glove box too. I thought it held the big cable to the Flux Capacitor but like you, I didn't know either. Now I'm glued and want to know too!

With this pen holder and matching magnetic pen, a electrical relay in your trunk disconnects the positive terminal of your battery during the sea yourney from the German factory. If you're not using it for theft protection, you can get rid of it. Usually under your backseat there's a cable that connects to it. I'll link a previous thread as soon as i'm less mobile.
