Downpipes and midpipes w/ stock axleback?

Hey, has anyone run aftermarket downpipes (catless or high flow catted) and catless midpipes with the stock axleback with their n54 135i?

If the axle-back isn't too restrictive I've got a buddy who wants to keep it on his car, and have that stealth factor and convenience of the jb4's CANflap feature.

Thanks in advance!

Yea youtube is your best friend when it comes to hearing all the different exhaust set ups out there. Even though the sound isnt quite what it will be in real life, it still gives you and idea...

Heard it once underground with cat delete, aftermarket mid with resonator and OE axle-back. It sounds 100 to 120% louder than full stock, slighty raspy, and to me the volume is acceptable.

Not to sound like an ass, but both of those clips have DPs with stock midpipe and axle-back, while I was asking about a car with both DPs and aftermarket midpipe.

I tried youtube without luck, so I thought I'd try up here. Reading comprehension, kids!

^ Mad? I wasn't being a smartass or anything, just trying to help out someone who can't use the search button. I love it when the word "kid" comes up, it just screams "immaturity" but sure, I'll play along. By the way gramps, a midpipe won't do much in the sound department, so regardless of what video's i posted, it will sound identical with or without an aftermarket midpipe .

Apologies, but I have to disagree with you. I just swapped stock midpipes to CPe midpipes and there's a large sound increase. Lovely mind you, but still large.

Yes, i am aware if you just swap out just the midpipe's, it will be louder then stock, but if you put a downpipe with a larger diameter midpipe, it will only slightly be louder, but downpipes make the most difference in terms of sound / performance. So if the OP want's sound clips of cars with both downpipe / midpipe installed, just turn up the volume slightly, and he has his answer.

So you're saying that the midpipes add more volume/noise to an exhaust than the downpipes?

Agreed.... and I'd like it to go somewhere.

Does anyone on here have catless downpipes, aftermarket resonated midpipes and the factory axleback on, with sound clips?

Mine is an N55 but here is some food for thought. The piping on my stock muffler and my BMW Performance muffler are the same size. I'm talking about the piping from the muffler to the flange where it attaches to the mid pipes.

I've come to realize the closest thing to this for an N54 car.... is an N55 car with Catless DPs, since the N55 mid is catless and resonated.... and it sound good....

Good info in this thread. BUT the question remains, any clips of aftermarket DP's w/aftermarket resonated midpipes and stock axleback on an N54?
