Clutch valve removal/mod question
Hey everyone,
I have an 08 135i and have read the good things about the mod to the clutch valve. My clutch feels perfectly smooth and seems to work fine. The previous owner did not mod it. What am I looking for? What does the removal/mod do? I can't imagine the clutch feel can get any better. But then again I have nothing to compare this feel to? Thanks all!!!! |

The Clutch Delay Valve buffers the clutch engagement so that it will not occur too quickly - hopefully preventing clutch damage. I've never noticed it in over 250,000 miles on 5 different MT BMWs, but I tend not to "pop" the clutch in the interest of longer drivetrain life.
As you have read, some folks think removing it is the greatest thing since sliced bread, others don't see the need. Tom |

A friend of mine had a Hyundai Tiburon in high school that had a similar part on it, and getting rid of it made the car a lot easier to drive aggressively. Nissan 240SX's have a clutch damper that acts similarly, as well.
Basically, if you plan on driving the car aggressively then you'll see benefits from removing the delay valve. If you drive conservatively, I wouldn't bother removing it. |
