Seatbelt on vert flaps w/window down

I assume this is only a problem with the convertible, but if I put my window down all the way, the wind causes my shoulder belt to flap, where it goes through the loop on the body. I have to put my window up about 2 inches to have it stop. Anyone come up with a fix for this?

I have a wind diffuser as well but I don't think there is a solution except to roll up the window.

I think this is a common issue on all 'verts. I remember old E30s were the same way. I've never riden in any other 'vert, though.

Would closing the other seat buckle solve it?

I only need to put the window up about 1 inch to stop it. Never had anything like this in the MX5, but then that's designed as a roadster for top down driving, rather than a chopped down coupe.

This is my first occurrence of this, I did not have the problem in my Z3 or Z4, but they didn't have the seatbelt anchors where these are.

I was wondering if anyone came up with either some type of deflector or clip for the belt.

My belt has never flapped under 90 MPH.

Do you have something to admit to?

Ha, I wish!
Maybe it's dependent on height or seat position. I'm very medium all-round, and anything over 20mph or so causes it to flap.

If I could just learn to permanently drive with my left elbow out the window, I'd be all set.

My E46 would do this sometimes not all but it was a sedan so who knows. Just buckle it in, problem solved.

??????

The problem occurs when I'm wearing the seatbelt - I thought that was understood. The shoulder belt flaps in the wind as it stretches horizontally from the metal loop behind the seat to my shoulder/chest. This is due to the loop raising the belt above the top of the door, so it's like an airplane wing.

Same with my E46 sedan - but only the unbuckled passenger belt under certain conditions.

In order to comfortably rest my left arm on the doorsill, I keep my seat in the highest position and have no flapping problem in my 128i 'vert.

Interesting, maybe I'll try a seat height adjustment. From having driven a Z3 & Z4, I've gotten accustomed to sitting somewhat low in the car, so as to avoid the "bear driving a midget clown car" look. However, the 1er does have a higher beltline, so that might work.

As my first roadster was a '55 Triumph with cutaway doors, I felt that even the Z3's sill was high, and the Z4 higher still; although I realize it does reduce wind turbulence with the top down.

Nice to know someone else also did the Z3 - Z4 - 1 series 'vert sequence. And if it takes looking like "bear driving a midget clown car" to see around all the damn tinted window SUVs, so be it!

I can't put the seat nearly all the way up and still fit in the car. But I am not all the way down, either, and my seat belt only flaps above about 55 mph. I either live with it or roll the windows up. I can't hear the radio well at that speed with the top down anyway. But sometimes I want the air more than the radio and I just live with the belt. I've tried putting the seat lower and my hair gets messed up less but it just doesn't feel right (and if my hair gets too messed up it is time for a haircut anyway).

I'm on the hardcore side, since my cutoff temp for taking a motorcycle to work was 40F. I generally have the windows all the way down above 80, but being an afternoon cigar smoker, I also like to have my elbow out the window sometimes, and that's when keeping the window up a few inches is a pain.

I garage my car, and my workplace has a secure parking lot, so I've been seeing how many days I can go without putting my top up. Not that easy in southern NH/ northeast Mass, but it's been fairly mild recently.
