Anyone here run Amsoil in their 1M?

I had my 1st experience using it in my RS4 and really liked it. I had no problems with carbon deposits and no oil consumption.

I was thinking of using Amsoil's 5W-30 European Car Formula synthetic oil in my 1M (when I eventually obtain it).

Anyone else here use it?

How long did you have the RS 4 (mileage wise), Rapture? Anyone that claims their RS 4 had no carbon buildup has been drinking some strong Absynth At this stage you won't even have an Audi rep refute that. And oil will do nothing about it either, if you have been one of the original RS 4 owners and followed the whole discussion on using RLI oil over the years, you'll recall it had no benefit. Ditto for any oil, whether it is or not VAG approved.

Is the Amsoil among the list of approved oils by BMW? If not, I fear you risk warranty loss for no perceived benefit. Just my $0.02.

Thanks ///M1

I would tend to agree with you, the carbon build up is a serious issue. I did follow all of the threads on the subject and they did get quite complicated. I remember one though where the Amsoil oil rated very high in one of the requirements to protect the motor from it. LIke you said though, lots of opinions on that subject. I also followed a very specific break-in schedule and never used any gas other than Shell V-Power. It had carbon, but a very small amount. I had 26K miles on it when I sold it.

I will check the oil to see if BMW approved.

Thanks,

For what it's worth, I use and have used Amsoil in all my vehicles and the specs meet or exceed any sythetic oil and lubrication requirements of any and all dealers. This product, of which I have no financial interest, has served me very well in my Dodge Ram Cummins motors, rear-ends and transmissions. Not cheap, but just as good if not better than Mobile1 or any more widely used commercial/retail product.

Good choice. Now let's see if BMW NA knows anything at all about this product.

Now that I think of it, since BMW performs all the maintenance on the vehicle, why would you use Amsoil until after the initial 50K?

I'm thinking if it's a better oil, and it has no warranty implications I would'nt mind "popping" for the cost of it.

I'd use the Amsoil European Car Formula 100% Synthetic 5W-40 Motor Oil which is BMW approved...
