Escort Solo S3?

Does anyone or has anyone tried the Escort Solo S3 Cordless Radar Detector?

I currently have the Passport 8500X50 but really dont want to go through hardwiring it to the new car or have that cord climb up my dashboard.

I would just consider selling this one and getting the Solo if its equally as good a detector, more so if its better.

Thanks

I got the S2. Didn't seem like it was worth another $100 for the minor differences, but if it's better at battery consumption it might be worth it. Anyway I mount it just above the dash with the regular suction cups.

Just got hit with a laser today, in fact. Fortunately I wasn't going very fast at the time, but I got a nice live demonstration of why laser detectors don't matter. I watched the cop aim it at two other cars within a few yards of me and didn't get a murmur from the unit. Then he sighted on me and the unit went instant full-on.

Radar spray gives me lots of warning, though. But now I'm worried that my local cops were testing this laser unit today with an eye toward replacing their old radar units. (sigh) Oh well, my tax dollars at work. (lol)

rumor has it from our cop friends is that lazer has a beam diameter of about the size of a quarter, so unless you get hit directly it won't pick it up. radar, as you said, is like putting your thumb in front of the hose outlet and watching the water fan all over the place. The lag time on lazer is almost non-existent, where radar has a few moments' grace period.

This is off topic but is at least a little related. I watched a way to get a ticket for going less than 10 mph over last Saturday. I was moving my daughter from Atlanta to Bloomington, Illinois. So we did a bunch of driving. I followed a 18 wheeler from Nashville into Kentucky. He was a bit of a jerk (fighting with my daughter who was trying to follow me in a U-Haul truck) but was going about 5 over so I followed him. As we passed a trooper he jumped off the shoulder and followed and then put his lights on. I slowed slightly when he jumped on and got in the right lane. My 18 wheeler "buddy" did too but then right as the trooper got to him, with his lights on, the 18 wheeler jumped in the left lane. He was like that but picked the wrong vehicle to do that to. My 18 wheeler "buddy" was trying to pass another truck going about 2 mph slower than he wanted to go. Typical jerky thing 18 wheel drivers do. Trooper pulled him over.

Moto for me is regardless of how close you are to the speed limit stay out of the way of troopers. I've never gotten written up going less than 10 over but I don't mess with the troopers either. I don't know if the truck missed him or was just a big jerk. My daughter thought he deserved it - she was convinced he was a big jerk.

I dont fully understand what happened in this story really but I agree that I have never gotten pulled over for going ~10mph above the speed limit

yeah im thinking about potentially just finding a mount that will work with the BMW rear view and then hardwiring it. From what I hear, the cordless detectors arent nearly as powerful because they are constantly trying to conserve power, therefore reducing the range

I have the solo2... I am very happy with how it works and how many times it has saved me. I called escort to see if they could upgrade the softwear in the s2 to match the new s3, sadly they said no.

although i have multiple vehicles, I only use it on batteries in 1 of them. The other two i equpped with the direct wire smart cord >> https://www.escortradar.com/store/di...tcord-red.html
<<

I found this to be a great addition as the hard wire is hidden, the small display is mounted on top of the steering column cover, and gives me a better warning light flash, sound, and the ability to mute..

I mount it high on the windshield above the rear view mirror, far enough to the right that the visor just misses it..

Works great..
