Any N55 with long cranks??

Started getting them here and there randomly. Bout one every couple of weeks. I have a feeling i know what that is leading to, but wanted to know if any other guys with the n55 have experienced it, or am I just special?

Yes, and no. I had them, but they have been gone for several thousand miles now, with no work done to the car. Strange.

Yes I had it too, but now its fine and never brought it to the dealership! have about 11k miles and it happened around 8k

Negative, no long cranks here however my car barely turns over ever since the DME update. I hope the PPK fixes this.

At 450 miles, I started getting 2-3 sec. cranks almost every cold start. Now at 4k miles, I get them around 1/10 of the time. It doesn't really bother me anymore since I haven't experienced any loss of performance or CELs.

I had them for a few days at around 5000 miles. Took it to the dealership, and they found no codes, and it started fine for them for the 2 days they had it. The technician said it could have been bad gas. Has not happened since and I'm now at 7800 miles.

Or solar flares.

I'm not complaining much, because the problem went away, but between my wife and I, we have had a couple dozen vehicles, for many hundreds of thousands of miles, and never had long cranks from "bad gas" with any of them. For awhile there, I was getting them every other week in the 135.

Yeah- I know what you're saying. Never had it before in any other cars in the past either. I thought it was the HPFP problem in our N55's, but that wouldn't just go away. I also haven't noticed any difference in the way it starts since getting the PPK installed a couple of weeks ago.

No long cranks, but very occasional stall at an intersection. BMW Sydney have just swapped out the HPFP.

So far I have no cels...but i've had a couple cranks that took around 5 seconds.

I have been getting long cranks every once in a while and some sputtering at lights. I have approximately 16,000 miles.

I just hit 10k miles today and have not had any long cranks.

Long cranks can be an early sign of the HPFP going out. On my Mini, this is what happened.

Yep, I've had 5-6 long cranks prior to the new DME, and 1 extremely long crank since the new DME.

I've hit 14k just the day before yesterday. I've noticed the cranks seem to happen when my fuel starts getting low.

18k miles here with no long cranks.

I started getting them often at 15k, took it in for service, they replaced 4 injectors. I am now at 28k, it started again, taking her in for service tomorrow.

And BMW will have auto start/stop in the next 3 series, WITH this engine.

If you need to get out of the way quickly, I recommend to never use that function.

If you know that you will be stopped for longer than a minute and you just have to save a few pennies, you can simply shut the engine off with this little gadget known as the "start/stop" button.

I guess car makers think that that is too complicated of an idea, so they invent auto stop/start.
Yeah! I'm saved. Well, until I need to get out of the way quickly from the big a$$ truck who apparently doesn't see I'm stopped, and my engine decides it needs a long crank session.
