I guess "wrong" is such a strong word. Here is only my theory after some weeks of research and looking at UOAs. By no means I claim to know any better than anyone else. Tws is a thick oil, but will possibly give the best protection when driven hard. You should be a bit careful pushing too hard when the engine is cold.
The chief engineer of M discussed the oil spec, and stated that although the N54 can momentarily reaches 200C in certain parts and occasionally at 150c, it is not sustained and will not degrade the oil and can use a lighter oil instead of the TWS. Lighter oil = more power and faster revving. If you are doing long track days where you sustain high temperature for long periods of time, a thicker oil will give better protection, trading against protection at startup. My choice will be a good quality 5-30W (most likely motul 300v) even in the Queensland heat. I tend to drive short trips these days and would love to have the protection right from the start. I will change in another 2000km and do some UOAs so will have some comparison to castrol. You have to pick the right oil for your application .

Great publication Bryan. You are still organising some great drive days/weekends by the looks of things and keeping busy on the track by your No1 ranking..
Looks like you are still the official photographer, as there was no pix of you besides the editor's mug shot.. ![]() |

Congrats Joe, looks awesome... you'll be popular in the "spotted" thread soon! Can't wait to see the new beast in the flesh.
