As my wife justifies it, you DON'T look at the cost but focus on how much you have SAVED!

Why this mod??? I run track days and oil temps never over 125... limp mode only comes in as below at 150 degrees.

Other things to try, run RedLine Water Wetter in coolant & run 0W40 oil. I found changing to Castrol Edge 0W40 (LL-01) reduced my temps and warms up more quickly.

See:
• Component protection (Limp Mode)
- Coolant temperature between 117C/242F and 124C/255F
- Engine oil temperature between 150C/300F and 157C/314F
- Result: The output of the air conditioning system
(up to 100%) and of the engine is reduced
• Emergency
- Coolant temperature between 125C/257F and 129C/264F
- Engine oil temperature between 158C/316F and 163C/325F
- Result: The power output of the engine is reduced
(up to 90%)

Prevention I guess. In normal traffic i see 120 and I am planning on a track day in december and figure the temps will head north, but depending upon the track day I will make a decision.

At the end of the day I figure the setup I am envisaging should only cost a couple of hundred and give me some piece of mind that the engine is not getting Too hot

120 is normal. I have done track in around ambient 32 degrees and oil temp same as on a cool winter track day
Rather consider the PPK aux radiator kit if cooling is a concern, as water cooling will also lower oil temps. HP Autowerks also sell larger radiators.

Thanks, depending on the track day I might do both at the same time

Has anyone who has gone from a non 1M N54 - 335i in my case - to the 1M noticed that the 1M runs a little hotter, even with the extra radiators? The 1M however hardly raised a sweat on the track whereas the 335i's needle starts to go north even in just spirited road driving. Weird.

Paul your running a JB4 right?? So set it to MAXcool mode and put some Castrol 10w 60 in a week before you go to the track. Make sure you have the cowl off.
The N54's run hot. I'm currently using Mobile 1 0W 40.

Smart move. Street cars suck on the race track. minimum upgrade oil cooler, radiator, brakes.

Maybe N55's are better with cooling. I have no oil temp issues on track, even running with a tune.

I don't have experience with my N54 on the track but my oil temps range between 110-120 which is normal. Even if i drive it hard it doesn't go past 120.

On my way home from advan the other week in traffic I was sitting just on 120 for a good 45 minutes and after 30 minute cool down/heat soak. I jumped back in and stomped on the loud pedal and after 5 minutes got a temp warning. So I figure at the track not gonna be any better.

Water or Oil temp warnings? How old/mileage of your car?... perhaps coolant is low or needs flush, radiator fins damaged etc?

120 is normal/optimal... this is what these cars like to run at. Driving mid winter on a freeway mine sits at 120... mid summer the same

What sort of temp warning?

Option 6 Speedo, Option 1 Tacho Maxcool mode. Activates engine fan and water pump. What the hell are you waiting for Paul. I used Maxcool last time at the track and you'll see that 120 drop to 110.

I've done 25k and this is the first Oil temp warning, but I was 'sounding' out the DP's for a good 45 minutes befoe the oil temp warning, didn't get a limp just a warning

I think that turbos are cooled by engine oil/water cooling components, so if they are running hotter now due to DP's then this may increase temps?? I'd ask Peter at Advan for advise instead of speculating

I hit 130 on the track, but never temp warning and engine still feels strong. I always do an engine oil change afterwards. On my previous oil change I used Mobile 1 0W-40 and normal driving temps never went past 110. I thought DPs would help since they get rid of an exhaust restriction.

Recently however, I got my complimentary oil change from BMW and I believe they use Castrol Edge 5W-30, and I've been hitting 120 just from normal driving. Oil definitely has an effect, and I'll be changing mine again before the next track day.

Hey mate ,

the ar design oil cooler kit is nice, as is the Stett Stage 2 oil cooler kit that I have installed.

IMHO, the new dual core Evolution Racewerks setup is perhaps overkill, based on the results from my Setrab single core application.

It certainly appears to be a very well engineered kit, utilising quality components.

However given that it is almost double the cost of the Stett kit, I would be inclined to spend the additional cash on an upgraded radiator, rather than dropping similar coin on a dual core set up.

Just my 2 cents...

I've seen 137 degrees on track at QR (read off my perf wheel), but I probably missed reading the peak temp. I want better cooling.

Gazz, you higher temps on road and lack of temp rise at the track is probably down to thermostat rating & extra cooling capacity respectively. How is your beast now?

Hi Tim, thanks for the info'. Makes sense.

The beast is still in hospital. Had a long wait for a particular part. Parts finally arrived last week however the shop has just started work and found that they hadn't included a part in their list. AAAARRRGGHH.

BTW dealing with Tischer, AKA getbmwparts.com, has been a total joy. Friendly prompt service, super cheap relative to Aus' stealer's prices and reliable. Every part from an extensive list was delivered in perfect order with no wrong parts. That's the first time that's ever happened to me.

You do get screwed by UPS at this end. Still works out way way cheaper to buy ex US.

What year model was your 335i? From memory I think the 07 models did not come with a factory oil cooler.
