Finally installed my stage 1 kit last week. A few more hassles than I thought but Pete, Chris & Justin were available via phone & email to assist. Contact me before you attempt to install so I can pass on my hard earned lessons. Hopefully I get to drive a bit in the coming weeks so I can give some feedback.

Thanks mate.

In retrospect it's not that hard a job. With what I know now I could probably do it again in a tenth of the time (fair dinkum) & make much less of an oily mess. But you really do need some short ratcheting hex tools & small hands to work in the tiny space in front of the oil filter/thermostat. As I've got big hands/(big knob), I struggled. You also have to not keep dropping tools & bolts out of reach/view on the accessory drive belt...

With no disrespect to Vinney's install, I think it may actually be simpler to install the stage 2 kit than my stage 1. Taking the factory thermostat off & replacing it with the stage 2 plate looks much easier.

Yeah, that may get me banned Kenny. Some of the guys who were at the Brisbane photoshoot thingy can probably tell you though. We all got our gear off & posed in front of the cars towards the end & I could see at least Dr Stig, nik, micha3l & Harlequin checking me out.

In pity or awe would you say? There should be more nude 1addicts photoshoots.

Disbelief.
I think Nik may be organising another one. Vinney & Richard were upset at missing the last.

After our night together at Darwin's "Throb", I thought you'd be more open minded Kamal.

Anyway, back on topic. I've been driving around for the past few days, but with Brisbane's cold/wet weather I've got little chance to review the oil cooler's effectiveness. The O.E. thermostat hasn't really had a chance to open.

It'll stay between you & me Kamal.

I've had a bit of experience with the Advan Stage 1 kit recently, including today's track day. Very cold days & nights so not the ultimate test. Temp's were read off my Perf. steering wheel.
1. On the hwy at night driving to/from the Sunshine Coast I was averaging oil temps around 109 degrees. As the thermostat doesn't even open until ~105 that's not too bad.
2. At Qld Raceway today, with ambient temps ~19 degrees I was seeing peak oil temps of 130 degrees on the "National" circuit & 126 on the "Clubman" & "Sprint" circuits. These came down to ~115 by the time I cruised back to the pits after a cool down lap. As QR is a series of interconnected drag strips oil & water get very hot here. I have seen 137 degrees here before with the standard setup running just an SSTT but I can't remember what the ambient temp was then

Hey Tim,

thanks for providing some good track data on our Stage 1 kit.

Given that the above circuit would appear to be a horsepower track and you are not giving the oil cooler at head start (as a result of retaining the OE stat'), maintaing peak oil temperatures of 130 degrees Celsius is a fairly decent result.

However if you wish to keep oil temps at or below 130, during the much higher ambient temps of the Summer months, you may need to upgrade to our Stage 2, external thermostat (20 row) kit.

We will now be selling our Stage 1 kits for $895.00 inclusive of GST.

So I imagine you should be able to upgrade to a Stage 2 kit, without a loss on your original kit given your GB pricing, if you feel it necessary to do so.

Cheers,

JD.

Hey Vinney,

that would be much appreciated, the more independent track data we have, the better.

Cheers,

Drove up to the Twin Waters for a conference on Tuesday & returned today. With ambient temps of ~22 degrees my oil was still around 109 degrees. This is good. Interested to see what it's like on a 35deg day on the hwy.

Hey Tim,

thanks for the additional info.

Your running temps are looking good and inline with what I would expect after retaining the OE thermostat, with the stock operating temperature.

Cheers,

JD.

Spent this afternoon at Qld Raceway with Vinney & Michael (& many others…). Ambient temperature was around 28 degrees & I was registering 131 degrees peak on the Clubman circuit & 135 peak on the Sprint circuit. This is getting close to the 137 degrees I've registered on the National circuit with the OEM cooler (though I can't remember the ambient temp here). My water temp was peaking at 102 degrees today.
No limping for me but Michael & Vinney both limped several times for unknown reasons.

When you boys limp are the codes heat related or misfires? The reason I ask is that I think I have fixed my misfire codes with a driver upgrade. I have been bouncing off the rev limiter on two particular corners and I think this is what was the cause, by paying more attention to gear selection and not bouncing off the limiter I got NO more limps.

BTW any footage of the session?

I limped all day. Oil and water temps were perfect. Yes I bounce of redline numerous times but you would think these engines could take a certian amount of abuse. I misfired in 1, 3 and 4. Something is definitely up because I can't even go WOT on the highway anymore without going into Limp Half check engine light.

Vinney when was the last time you changed the coil packs?

I had a limp (misfire related) in the first two sessions at wakefield on monday and it was only on the second time that I thought there might be a connection with bouncing off the rev limiter comming out of 2 specific corners. after that I made sure (well as paul kindly pointed out) the driver was a lot more attentive to the over revving issue and after that no more limps, which is why i think the ecu says 'well if your gonna bounce me i'm gonna bounce you'.
