135i or 335is

Am I stupid...
My uncle's lease on his 335is will end this November and he said he wants to keep it In the family. And because he is moving he asked me if I actually wanted the car...

Would I be stupid not to take it and stay with my car...

I have a 135i 2008 n54 so the same engine as his car. Don't our cars handle better? So if my car has the same engine and I already have a tune... Would our cars be better?

If you're looking for something with a little more room, and better interior, take the 335. If you don't care about that, then keep what you have, it's lighter, faster, and handles better.

I shopped and drove the 135is and 335is. Cost wasn't a consideration. I chose the 135is, not because it is necessarily "better" in any way, I just preferred the driving experience.

i'd much rather have a 135i than a 335is. i think the E92 3-series was just a bloated pile of blandness. The engine in the 335is is great....but the added weight, the iffy styling, and the overall largeness of the thing is not cool!

335is late year n54 + overboost? I'd hit it over an early year n54 135i

Had both at the same time the 335is is an all round better car + its at least a 2011 compared to your 2008. BTW I don't think you have the same engine. IIRC the N54 in your car is stock or a PPK version. My 135is is stock with a PPK compared to a normal stock 135i.

The 335is runs a totally different ecu that is not compatible with the standard N54 & software with unique ignition advance curves that will handle boost much better without timing drops. Tune only 335is cars with E85 or 93/100 fuel mixes have run 11.8/9 @ 117mph on RFT's

The 335is, Z4IS & 1M all run versions of the same motor. When I was testing JB4's we had 335is (Z4is-1M) specific software developed the would not run on a 135i.

As for the bloated nonsense I believe a passenger will cover the weight spread between the cars which regardless is blown away by the 370 ftlbs of torque vs 300 ftlbs.

I also tested the 335is when I bought my 135is. Both had the same options and the cost was pretty much identical. I liked the room of the 335, but I really preferred the ride, handling and sound of the 135is over the 335, so that is what I purchased. I have no regrets - I love the 135is and if I had the same opportuity I would make the same choice.

Is the 335is a coupe (I'm not sure if they made them in sedan, coupe, vert, etc). If I hadn't owned my 135 and was just starting out looking I probably would've taken the 335is. But I like the body of the 135 more now that I've owned it and look at it every day.

Would there be a price difference between the 135 and 335?

I think all the iS models are coupes. If that's the case, the "bloated blandness" is not relevant. I think the coupes are a great looking car. I'd definitely take the 335iS over a first year model of the 135i. As mentioned, interior will be nicer, you'll have more room, and a newer engine.

Pretty much what I said, the upgraded i-Drive, later year N54 plus ppk2 is hard to turn down.

Depends what you are looking for. Random thoughts

First I believe the weight spread is a non event. About 200lbs while any mix of load & fuel can cover it or if it gets better for the 135 its still way short on power to exploit it.

In my case the DCT is quicker than the 6MT in use so the 135 gets no help there. In your case its a wash both 6MT.

My 335is carried 245 front & 275 rear tires, don't think they will fit on the 135. So it had more lateral grip potential.

Better pure stock performance software, on a DynoJet got 319whp on 94 octane. Was repeatable as a base run on 3 occasions.

335is has better natural cooling than the 135. In addition to the regular stuff it has an extra water radiator & a bigger fan & pump assembly.

Pretty much the same under pinning's but the 335is adds some M parts & additional engine stabilizer torque reaction brackets.

Visually the 335 has much better proportions than the 135. Its pretty obvious the 135 is running on a shortened 335 chassis so the overall proportions are off.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder but no one ever though the 135 was a more attractive car compared to the 335.

The 3 Interior is more finished than the 1 although they do have similar seats, both very comfortable.

This is a 135 forum & guys love their cars, I like my 135is, but by the same token I believe the 335is was a better all around car.

Regarding production about 5000 each coupe & convertible were produced between 2011 & 2013

Bottom line is you need to please yourself, that's the only opinion that really matters.

Take the 335is

1. It's newer
2. I'll have to say it...the front end looks better
3. The N54 in the 335is (as mentioned above) is unique except for its reskinned brothers the Z4 35is and 1M.
4. I'm not even sure if the 1er will handle better than the e92. I feel more stable in my ex-e90 than I did in my e82 during curves.

Only reason I would keep the E82 is because it FEELS a lot more FUN at least IMO. Of course, there's sentimental reasons as well.
