how to avoid steering issues if doing the downpipe install

Hey guys.
I remember hearing about people installing downpipes into their cars and needing to diconnect the steering linkage to access the downpipes.
At the same time, i heard that some people had the steering wheel off by a few degrees after everything was put back together.

Is there a way to avoid this from happening?

Loosen the two bolts holding the rack in place but loosen them enough where the nuts are on the bolts a few threads. This will allow you to move the rack up enough to make your way around it to do the install and also keeps the rack centered. When your done with the dps just tighten up the rack bolts. Done deal.

I would also use a sharpe marker to mark around the steering rack mounts - so it goes back exactly as before you messed with it.

Quick question before I start.

This can be done on a drive up lift as opposed to a 4 post lift correct? I'm almost positive the steering rack removal isn't effected by the position of the wheels vertically but can't quite remember.

Thanks!

When you remove the rack, there are just two bolts. You unbolt it, move it about an inch or two and then put the bolts back in. You won't have issues.
