My Review of the BMW "Travel & Comfort System"
Today, I received my BMW Comfort and Travel System. For those who aren't familiar with it (which is probably just about everyone), it's a system with a plastic mount that snaps in between the headrest posts, facing into the passenger seat. Using that mount, you can snap in:
- a hook to hang light bags - a folding laptop table - a large coat hanger, or - an iPad mount I ordered 2 mounts (driver and passenger side), 2 hooks, and 1 tray table - total almost $200, with shipping. I passed on the hanger (no use for it, and a bit too pricey), and the iPad holder (no iPad!). My thoughts on it: THE MOUNTS: All plastic, but nicely made for about $17 each, with a small BMW logo. They're spring-loaded, and snap into place in seconds - no need to remove the headrest. (Should work with most cars with 2 headrest posts - not just BMW.) THE HOOKS: Plastic and metal. Heavy, solid and impressive. Priced fairly at about $26 each. The manual says they'll hold up to 1.5 kg (3.3 pounds). THE LAPTOP TRAY: A solid (if not a bit overly-heavy and clunky) piece. Comes with a variety of adjustments to raise or lower the height, and to change the angle. Has a built-in drink holder that folds up and out of the way when not in use. The drink holder is plenty big enough for a standard 20-oz bottle of soda. The tray table itself barely has a lip, tho, so anything you put on it is likely to slide off, if the car is moving. All in all, a nice, solid piece for about $89. All the accessories easily snap in and out of the mount. Everything comes nicely packed in fancy BMW boxes. I ordered from Jason at getbmwparts.com. Stellar service - quick replies to inquiries, and fast shipping (with a tracking number). Interestingly, very few places seem to carry this system (probably because it's so totally useless!). Passport BMW doesn't even list it in their system, and even a search of Euro sites found a few places with the mount, hanger, and hooks, but almost nobody listing the lap tray. Jason's prices were good, compared to others I did see. All in all, the system is fairly useless (especially in a 1-er, where the laptop tray takes up practically the whole back seat!), but I tend to gravitate to the strange and unique, so I knew I had to have this. You can see it here: Comfort & Travel.

Seems potentially usefull if you use your rear seat a lot for passengers. I don't.

I got the coat hanger adapter. It is very solid and much better then the first version which had flexing issues. There is a pullout hook at the top so you can pull it off and use it at home.

"Totally Loved it/Delightful Read"? Thanks!
"Best Article on the Net"? Wow, you guys are just too nice! Holy cow - someone else actually bought the system. I was beginning to think I was the only one.
