Ipod random never goes above 500 songs

I've got idrive and the BMW glovebox ipod adaptor. When on random, it never goes beyond about the 500th song. I've got about 1400 songs total so never get beyond a song that starts with H. I've created some small playlists with songs starting beyond H and they do play. So the issue seems to be how far the system is reading my ipod.

this happens one any of the 4 ipods I've got...a touch, two classics and a nano. Also, when I try to switch from random mode to any other mode after 27 seconds the ipod locks up. Have to unplug and then will work in a different mode.

So, is this normal behavior? If there's a way to hear songs that start with something higher than H I'd love to know how to do it.

I'm sure the dealer will say they've never heard of such a thing, and hoping it's something they can remedy but based on many negative reviews of the ipod adaptor not too optimistc.

thanks,

mg

Your iPod plugs into the glovebox? On my car, there's a USB in the glovebox, but it's for the built-in hard drive. My iPod plugs in under the armrest.

I haven't noticed a problem with my random play, but a lot of people have complained that it's not very random. To solve the problem, a friend of mine loaded all of his music on the internal HD, and then sit it to play songs alphabetically. That's pretty random - you'll only hear the same order of songs each time it cycles thru them all.

The '10 has the ipod adaptor in the glovebox, I think it's part # 6fl and didn't come standard that year. The aux jack is under the armrest. The usb is still there for the harddrive as well. Was hoping to not have to hassle copying everything over but really getting frustrated that I can't listen to most of the music on my ipod without it either stopping at g or locking up.

thx,

Mg
