Exhaust Mods, thinking of CP-E Downpipes

Hey guys,

I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on CP-E non-catted downpipes. I'm guessing since there are multiple cats, I shouldn't have too much trouble with emissions.

Anyone running CP-E? Any issues with fitment? Is it a worth while mod? Are there other mods that I should consider first? (I have a JB4, haven't installed it yet).

How loud does the car get? Also, what if I went completely catless, is it worth the hassle? (Anyone dyno such a setup?)

Sorry for all the questions, hoping you guys can guide me. If anyone has a better downpipe suggestion, I'm all ears!

No one has an opinion? I'm trying to decide between AR downpipes and CPe if anyone has any opinions.

You may want to inquire over in the 135 n54 section or over on e90post. Obviously different cars, but they will have plenty of discussion about the two downpipes.

I am interested to do some research myself as I think this may be my first modification. Leaning towards a catted dp though mainly for warranty/emissions reasons but obviously the catless gets more power.

Do they do a sniffer test where you are? If not, non-catted will be fine since the JB4 has the integrated DP fix. If they do use a sniffer, I'd say play it safe and get the catted versions, or just swap the stock ones in for testing.

Definitely one of the best mods you can do performance wise, makes the engine much more responsive, especially when combined with a tune.

Based on all the reviews on them, the fitment is perfect. On a otherwise stock exhaust it isn't too much of a increase in volume. Going completely catless will yield a negligible gain in perf but will sound a bit better, depending on how loud you're willing to tolerate.

Bang for the buck I'd take these over the AR's, there isn't a big enough performance difference to warrant paying that much extra.

I'd speak to AR and CP-E as I understand that you may still need the dp fix with catted downpipes.

Just get catless pipes and get the "Downpipe-Fix".

But have a shop that will pass your inspection....

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, truly appreciated.

I believe the JB4 has a built in downpipe fix, so I'm not too worried. I also won't need to pass emissions for many many years (I believe 4 years). I can just swap back at that point.

Is there a significant power and noise (I'd like the car to be a little meaner) gain that it warrants going cattless?

Does anyone know the size of the pipes on our cars, stock? Is it 3" OD all the way through? I've heard some downpipes taper down to a 2.5" whereas the AR claim 3" all the way through (Only way they could claim that is if the OEM is 3"?)

All downpipes taper down to 2.25-2.5 to mate up to the OEM catback, even AR downpipes. The sound difference will mostly depend if you have an aftermarket exhaust or not. If you still keep your OEM catback, the sound won't increase too much but it will definitely sound sportier especially WOT.

Catless down-pipes and mids will give you that nice fuel smell, more "raw" sounding exhaust and you will hear back-fires and pops easier. A nice bit of volume increase too, but the stock muffler does a good job at suppressing the sounds.

It will make more power. I think most people are finding 20-30whp on a Dynojet with fully catless exhaust and stock turbos.

That's the only thing holding me back from going full catless...the smell. I drive my 3-yr old around at least once a week and I don't want to subject him to inhaling any of that crap.

I'm curious what your experience has been with these vs stock? I notice cp-e claims the same gains with catted vs catless, which seems unlikely. Did you notice an improvement with them?

It was a nice improvement over stock. At the end of the day cat less will make more power maybe 5 whp more at the most but i did not want to deal with the smell, emissions or dealer issues. I got the catted versions and i am very happy. I can remove my software and not have a check engine.

Good to know. What other exhaust mods do you have?

Do CPe have the straight pipe (mid pipe) for 1M?

Found only MD, Berk and the Oem N55 for replacement !

I had the Fabspeed 2.75 DP Catless with stock mids and exhaust. It does sound good and surely more responsive on the throttle.
