K&N Air Filter
Friend put me on, looking to buy this:
http://store.knfilters.com/search/pr...x?Prod=33-2367 ...for my 135i. Any feedback/suggestions/ideas on it? Can I find it cheaper anywhere else? What sold me on it is that it won't void my BMW warranty |

K&N is crap. If you want a good, solid drop-in filter go to with Burger Motorsports
Here's the link: http://www.burgertuning.com/bms_dropin.html

+1 K&N has been around for a while and i think they would put out a good product. I think any of the drop in filter options will be better over stock!

Pleats (Specifically, deeper and more).
Urethane bleed. If you look at a K&N, some of the urethane "wicks" onto the gauze, which artificially lowers the amount of passable area. BMS and MachtSchnell use S&B filters which are a higher quality. I'm not saying the K&N is bad (Dinan uses it) but the S&B ones are just better. http://www.sbfilters.com/Support/Why-S-B

all cotton filters do is let more dirt into your engine.... get a foam filter if you simply have to change, but I doubt there's be much performance gains. K&N is one of the biggest scams out there

All filters are the same. Just cleaned and or changed more often, should be fine.

Interesting discussion. Already purchased the K&N, Looking forward to seeing just how much (if at all) my performance, and MPGs will be affected.

K&N is a good brand, and I would trust them. But all filters are not created equally. BMW uses Mann filters from the factory, which they wouldn't do if Mann wasn't a quality filter brand, but clearly we upgrade the filters so they're not the best. K&N filters have layers of filter material with staggered thickness, while aFe uses progressive layers. Is one better than the other? I don't know. But I don't think the performance difference between a K&N, aFe, or S&B filter will be all that noticeable. However, there is a slight difference between oiled and dry filters.
