Autocross videos

I can't find a specific thread to dump these into, so I'll start one.

Videos from the SCCA Washington, DC Championship Tour (June 18-19, 2016)
Saturday (my run was a sloppy mess at 68.318):
https://vimeo.com/171228456?ref=fb-share&1

Sunday (better 64.662):
https://vimeo.com/171503052

Memorial Day Weekend (NNJR Meadowlands 05/28/2016 53.6 but after the second run the intake pipe failed. Any run after that was off be a second or two):
https://vimeo.com/168708583

Pro Solo runs:
Wilmington Pro Sun left 1st run
https://vimeo.com/166670812

Wilmington Pro Sat left 2nd run
https://vimeo.com/166671041

Wilmington Pro Sun right 1st run

Octoberfest FTD run (from a lousy dash cam and crappy edit in the middle, a 68.5):
2015_0925_095342_913 edited

Edit: I just watched the O'fest run. What an awful course. Tight and zero flow. See the DC runs for what a course should be.

I know you have covered this before, but tell us a little about the car's setup. Nice driving!

Agree on the Octoberfest course, terrible. No fun at all. It sounded like your only chance to go full throttle and get some speed (maybe 50mph tops?) was entering the finish box.

More or less a stock vehicle. I built it to be SCCA A Stock legal (the category does not exist now save for one class: SSR). Struts and shocks are KWV3s fit into the OEM shells, springs are OEM at OE heights. The front bar is off an M3 convertible (hollow and thicker). Wheels are Forgestar with .25" offset, 9"x19" - 10"x19". The videos from DC and Wilmington, OH are on Bridgestone RE71R and O'fest was on year old Hoosier A6s. Except for tires, that's been my set up since 2012. Cranked -1 to -2.0 on the front camber, rears are about -2.0 (I haven't had an alignment in a long time either).

The only place I got speed was on the Atlantic City Expressway to and from the site The last section was horrendously tight and even though there was a pylon down in the last gate before the finish lights, I took the run "as is" since I wasn't getting tagged with the pylon. It ended up being my fastest run. My runs were all within two seconds of that (if you ignore the pylons ). Found results: http://www.njbmwcca.org/event_info/r...iday_final.htm

Lordy, found a better quality video so you can see the course.

Their first run was about 1:20 (better lighting for seeing the course), last run was a 1:08

Isn't the 1M still in "B street" as a stock vehicle?

I have ended up in ASPT with my mods, although I haven't done shocks/springs yet. Camber plates and mid-pipe are all that have pulled me from stock class. I am also using RE71r's this year, 255F/275R with -2.8 camber up front and -1.8 rear. I managed a class win last weekend, as I also posted elsewhere, so it seems like the alignment helps more than anything else.

I'll do coilovers next year and if that feels good enough to avoid embarassment, I may actually register for the SCCA tour event at Packwood. A handful of guys from my local club go there each year, but I have not been able to fit it into my schedule yet.

Locally we use an old Nascar short track tri-oval and its paddock space for our events and usually end up with 45-50 second courses. What do you think:

Yes, it is B Street now. I did zero modifications with the category change. Your mods sound like at least ASP or STU.
I'm not a fan of the pivot/pinch corners of that course, but given the layout there isn't much options.

The pivot when first entering the oval was the most aggressive one we have had. Despite that, i reached 60-68 mph in three places on that course.

That...works a lot better than I'd expect the car to work. I need to be really nice to you . That car is very appealing to me now.

Good seeing you this past weekend, as always.

Which, carjunkie or me? LOL When I was announcing I was hoping you'd do better. I know I need to drive better (read: tighter to my lines).

Either the car or me (mostly me) has been a mess all year. It was very, VERY bad Saturday. Sunday, I had a pretty epic brain fart (data shows it costing me seven tenths) into the showcase, and hit a cone because of it. Guess that's what happens when you drive seven feet off line. Rest of the run on my 63.3 was pretty damned good, aside from the finish, and a little miss of the apex on the way up to the hill.

I never thought I'd be happy with a damned fifth place trophy, but coming back from 11th on day 1, I was pretty okay with it.

I hope you announcing would allow me to avoid cones on 3rd runs...but that didn't work either

As someone who has never autocrossed before, I think I know what my next activity is going to be. That looks like a ton of fun!

You need to tie your horse on to a different wagon.

No, but don't worry, I wasn't looking at the speedo while on course.

I got my speeds from the MLaptimer app which shows 6508 RPM's at 68 MPH in second gear.

Should be able to hit 73 before the rev limiter.

Nothing too impressive (or FTD's), but here are a few of mine:

(w/ External Mic in Engine Bay)

(w/ External Mic on Rear Bumper)

No Data Overlay. Clutch Slip on Launch -- need to work on my launch
(w/ External Mic on driver's side overhead handle)

Videos made with MLapTimer App data (iPhone) + RaceRender software.

Front Camber set at -3.0 and 0 toe, and Rear Camber at -2.2. Full list of modifications in signature

Nice data overlays in the first two. I'll grow up one of these days and learn how to do that.

Background on the Englishtown and Meadpowlands vids.:
That is Englishtown Dragway’s “road course.” The father put it in and about a week after it was completed he passed away so the son deals with it. In NJ if you have a “start/finish” line of any sort, controls and requirements kick in (overseen by the NJ State Police). So they use it for “driver’s ed.”

At the Meadowlands Saturday the state police came by and demanded that the course workers wear safety vests. The event was stopped down while vests were taken out to each station (five, with four workers each).

The surface at Englishtown was strange. Big aggregate stones in a jennite mix. The result was a pretty slick surface with no real grip. The Meadowlands is real asphalt that had jennite put over it about three years ago. It’s normally not bad but there were a few corners that had some left over fluids on the asphalt that made handling weird. The fluids came from a “fair” that they run there for a couple of weeks.
