What is the right word?
What is it called when you search for the lowest price on something for someone? I know there's a word for it but can't remember what it is. For example, someone comes to you and wants the lowest price on a Macbook. You charge them $20 fee and search for the best price for them.
I'm thinking "brokerage" or "broker" but can't help but think there's another word for it. |

A broker can charge either a percentage or a set fee. Thats what you would be.
You would be charging a "finders fee". Thats what the fee would be. You = Broker You charge = Finders fee or commission/compensation |

Broker would probably be the most accurate. When I was in college, I came up with this idea of selling people's cars online for them, acting as a middle man. Basically, I would scour the newspapers or look for local sales, and offer to sell their car online, mainly through ebay. This was 2002, so back then many people were not using ebay yet. They had nothing to lose, as I paid all the ebay fees to list, so why not.
Basically, my "fee" was $50 if the car sold by me finding them a buyer, plus 25% of sale price over their asking price. I mainly looked for cars that were going way under book that I knew I could sell for more. So if they were getting rid of a car for $2,000, and I found a buyer for 3k, I got 300 bucks. Did this for months and it worked out quite well. Had a buyer/seller contract and everything worked out quite fine every time.
