"n the move, the Lexus IS 250 is smooth-riding and quiet but a bit light on emotion. Handling is secure and precise, particularly with the sport package fitted, but the IS never communicates with its driver the way many of its rivals do. Acceleration is adequate for a car in this price range, but with 0-60-mph estimates of 7.5 seconds, we'd hardly call it pulse-quickening."

128i goes 0-60 in ~6 MT and ~6.7 AT

P.S IS250 is totally a chicks car

my friend had an IS250, and my vw rabbit could keep up LOL

Well, from google.

128i curb weight = 3208. Power is 230 hp.
Power/weight ratio = 13.94

IS250 curb weight = 3,455 Power is 204 hp I believe.
Power/Weight ratio = 16.93

Now, something tells me that figure for the 128i is for manual. For auto, add another ~200 lbs for auto transmission, and some more for the sunroof. Lets just assume it weighs the same as the IS250.

3455 / 230 hp = 15.01.

Best way is to go to a drag strip . Make sure to record it

Talk is cheap.

As Bill Maher says, "When a guy is always bragging about how big his $%&@ is, chances are it's not true..."

There's an obvious answer.....line them up and race (in a proper setting of course)
My bet is definitely on the 128; I've driven both and the IS250 is a pig

2010 125i  [4.33]
i looked at both options, before choosing the 1 series.

its much more sporty than the lexus, and quicker too in pretty much every aspect according to my butt dyno.

My sister drives an IS250. You can actually see it in the picture in my sig, to the left with the nice OZ wheels I got for her. It's a nice car. Very comfy, ridiculously quiet at its price point, upscale on the inside (much more so than our 1 series, I think). But... Anemic engine, soft suspension, and too many electronic nannies keep it from being anywhere near sporty. Even with the "PWR" button pressed, it struggles to make it up to speed on the highway. 200 horses, like 190 ft-lbs from the 2.5L V6. Your 128i can easily blow it away in a straight line or through curves.

BTW, ask him how he likes the whole dash lighting up orange as if to say "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING MAN!? DON'T DO THAT!" every time he exceeds 75 MPH or 5K RPM. It's like the car was made for you NOT to drive it hard. Also, the auto tranny has manual mode but it doesn't even hold gears. What's the point? Real "sports car" your friend has, right?

On the flip side, it's a 5+ year old car at this point and it still holds its own in comparison tests. It was dead center in a entry level luxury camparo against the new 3 series. I forget which magazine, but the 3 series won, then there were the G25, TSX, S60, A4, C250, and IS250. IS250 ranked dead center even though several of those cars have been updated much more recently than the IS. It's not a bad car.. just not a sporty car at all. Small, comfy, upscale sedan. And that's that.

I looked at the IS a few years ago when comparing it to the C class and 3 series and felt the interior was cramped on space (particularly the rear, I couldn't even fit back there and I'm 6'2" so not a giant by any means) and was cheaper looking than the rest. It does have a much better price point though compared to the germans

I traded an 08 IS250 for a 135 and never look back. The IS is like everyone says, very nice interior, quiet, very nice interior, etc.. But no power at all with the 204hp on 2.5ltr. Now the IS350 is a different story with the bigger 3.5 engine. here is a few pics of my old IS250.

I looked at the IS250 before I bought my 128i convertible. At that time they were about to come out with the hard top convertible in the IS and I thought about waiting to see if I liked it better. Then I sat in one. I couldn't find a way to adjust the seat so my head didn't hit the roof. And I'm 6' 2". Salesman wasn't helping any - it might have been possible. But if I could get my legs in the front there was no room in the back for anybody's legs. According to my spreadsheet from 2009 it has 1.4 inch less front headroom, 0.7 inch less rear leg room, the engine is 204hp/185 ft lbs - so 26 less hp and 15 less ft lbs. I didn't even drive it. If I don't fit I don't fit. It's slower. The 0-60 I have in my spreadsheet for the is is 7.9 versus 5.7 for the 128 (independent test of the manual for both). 2 seconds slower 0-60 is a lot. It's the difference between keeping up with a mustang and struggling to keep up with a mini-van.

Jim

This. And make sure to point the camera towards the rear as chances are pretty good you will be leaving him behind.

The IS 350 has a 3.5L with ~300hp. Perhaps that's what he was thinking of.
