How many miles till you had to replace stock ps2's? - BMW 1 Series Coupe Forum / 1 Series Convertible Forum (1M / tii / 135i / 128i / Coupe / Cabrio / Hatchback) (BMW E82 E88 128i 130i 135i)

Just curious where other 1M's were at when they had to replace their rest tires. I'm at 8200 miles and my rear tires have less than 2mm at the wear bar. I know it depends on how you drive, but just want to see where others were at.

3900 miles and they look new to me.

I want to get my PSS's, but I refuse to throw out tires with some wear left.

yeah I want to try the PSS's too, but the reviews say that turn in will suffer but overall grip is better

I'm at 10k on mine. The rears are completely shot. Down to the wear bars. Fronts still look great though. I'm going to a DE this weekend and will take the car out a session or two just to roast the rears ;-) Have some 50% used 275/35 PS2s waiting to be installed next week. I just needed something cheap to get me by for a couple months. Will probably go with 285 PSS next time.

Yeah I'm wondering how wide we can go with the stock rears, 285's?
I read someone replaced just the rears with PSS, so I might try that since the fronts are still good

The only option in 285 of the PSS is 285/40 19 which I doubt can be a good fit. So, till Michelin releases new sizes, for the rear of 1M available options are stock 265/35 19, 275/35 19, 275/30 19 and if it can be fitted (am curious to know as well) 295/30 19 assuming you stay with 19 inch wheels.

I am with stock size PSS, I left the stock PS2s as a reserve set just after 550 kms. and am very happy, no tracking though so I can't comment on the reported loss of turn in compared to PS2s, I noticed nothing that sort because for me it is basically street use, occasional highway and back roads. Can't think of anything better for the 1M. They do everything admirably good. Also, unless you are in racing or desire a wider look or you have a tuned car with significantly more torque, I think the stock size does good enough with the PSS, problem of traction basically cured after my swap.

Totally agree with Ozinaldo on this. It's no use to go wider, 265 is already very wide , more is just more expensive, not to mention rubbing issues. If you wanna improve traction, just swap to PSS/conti/goodyear when the PS2's are shot ...

can you please post pics of the 285s when you get them mounted ?
i thought my 2mm thread left was bad at 10k but it looks like that's normal reading your post . you track a lot ?

Flatspotted mine in a nasty spin in the uphill esses at VIR shortly after my 1,200 mile break-in. Picked up some Pilot Super Sports shortly thereafter.

Swapped on stock sized PSS. Tiny reduction in turn sharpness - but loads more traction and grip, which massively outweigh any added squish to turn in. If you stay on the stock wheels and you go wider in the front than stock turn in will suffer more due to more slop.

25,250 miles and counting. One HPDE with 4 - 20 min. sessions so far. Still plenty of life left, but more HPDE's next spring should do the trick

11,000miles, some track time. PSSs were an upgrade for sure, got my set of PSS new on ebay through an Audi dealer for 1000k shipped in OEM sizes.

9K miles on stockers and (sadly) still no sign of wear. Hoping by the time they need to be replaced the PSS would be available in a 285/30/19 for the rears (stock fitment on the M3 GTS riding on our wheels)

Make a call to TR, I spoke with them a couple of months back, they said if sufficient interest (for the 285/30/19 PSS) they will reach out to Michelin. Apparently there has been huge interest from Corvette guys, and if all the M3/1M guys call in, I reckon that will hit Michelin's radar screen!
