BMW drivers are the worst??

“The worst are in the lower-specced BMWs, rather than the high end limos, but I've caught a few of those guys as well travelling at excessive speed. Unfortunately some drivers think that owning a BMW means owning the road,” said a NSW Highway Patrol officer, who spoke to us on the condition of anonymity"

Envy is natures way of confirming who the idiots really are......

So people drive badly because their cars aren't noisy enough -- that makes sense. There is a know fix for that, but noise pollution laws prevent it -- See BMW Performance Exhaust for the 135 - ADR says too noisy.

Although I suspect there are some examples here that would challenge that theory.

And to the "ever-so wise" NSW cop - shut up and get back to work, or I'll fire your a$$. Go and do something useful in terms of making NSW a safe place for my family and I. Don't you have a daily shooting to attend. Or a drug importer to find. Or an Ibrahim to monitor.

This shit really pisses me off...

EVERY SINGLE PERSON I KNOW WHO ASKS ME WHY I WOULD SPEND THIS MUCH ON A CAR IS A TERRIBLE DRIVER!!!

What this says to me is that people who DON'T buy decent cars often do so because they DON'T CARE ABOUT DRIVING.... and if you don't care about something you WON'T BE GOOD AT IT...

And then they do stupid things and blame other drivers...

"This BMW is overtaking me." - probably because you can't maintain a constant speed or you keep drifting across lane markings or something equally stupid.

"This BMW is tailgating me." - probably because you're doing 40 in a 60 zone or you're sitting in the overtaking lane doing less that the speed limit.

"That BMW is speeding." - stop looking at what I'm doing and pay attention to your own car. Studies have shown that the slower you go, the less attention you pay to what you are doing.

I may occasionally drive "spiritedly" but never unsafely...
I always wear my seatbelt.
I always have 2 hands on the wheel...
I don't touch my phone while I'm driving - even at red lights...
I don't eat, drink or smoke in the car...
I sure as hell don't apply makeup while driving....
My car is serviced and in perfect roadworthy condition at all times.
I know it's limits perfectly.
I have done multiple driver training courses...
I not only make a point to know where all the other cars on the road are, I also know what they are and what their capabilities are.

I'd also like to point out that since buying this car I have noticed substantially ruder behaviour of other drivers towards me - because I'm in a BMW they seem to think they can cut me off or tailgate me - more than in any other car I've ever had...

Oh, and as for that shit about why make/buy cars that can do 200kph: POWER=SAFETY ... The power of my car has gotten me out of the way of several idiot who would otherwise have killed me.. and more than one occasion, my passenger as well...

/Rant

...sorry... got it off my chest now...

Many years ago, I remember seeing a cartoon in the German weekly magazine "Stern". It showed a large, loud person walking in a crowded shopping mall shouting "Get out of the way, I'm a BMW driver". Perception, friends, it's all about perception.

Also I'd trust a German manufacturer's safety designs over another any day.

The point I was trying to make is that most of us here actually like driving - and therefore try to be good at it. I used myself as an example because I know me

I'm sure there are many other drivers both here and on the roads who are better/more experienced than me but I'd also bet that they're not the ones complaining in the comments of that article...

All I can say is never mistake Highway Patrol for Police Officers. Police have a hard, tough job and we need them to protect our safety and property. As for the others, who likes taxation officials?

More people die from prostate cancer or breast cancer each year than road accidents. More people commit suicide each year than die from road accidents. I could go on but I'm preaching to the perverted here.

All I'm hearing is a case for higher speed limits.

Unfortunately we are on the arse end of the world and the arse end of reason, so they will just keep getting lower.

Here's an idea...

Instead of having speed nazis, why don't the governments require people to do more regular driving/safety tests, and charge people for it. But here's the catch, the better you do on the exam, the less you pay. That way, the goverment gets their share of cash, and we get motivation for being better/safer drivers. Those who can't drive have to pay more, or they have no choice but to learn better practices.

Vic government has budgeted around $600 MILLION income from traffic fines for the next 12 months. Does that answer the question?

On the note about cops and HWP vs general duties/others.

I do concede that there are some HWP that are over the top. Having witnessed someone get pulled over by an HWP car and seeing the actions, it was ludicrous.

My dealings with general duties have been awesome. Nothing but respect for them all. Detectives are also absolutely fantastic.

Yes there are some HWP that don't fit the above description. But there are also some that shine as well. Just remember they also do have to deal with fatal accidents, serious injuries and ensuring the roads are safe. Sometimes, some of them employ methods which are dodgy.

Don't hate a man for doing his job.

LOL you got him there.

From working in a tertiary hospital i see what MVAs can do to people/families, and most importantly they were probably preventable as opposed to other causes of death. And even if a MVA doesn't result in death, it doesnt mean its a good result either.
