Exclamation 1M only made in three factory colors... Ohh Really!?!? Frozen Blue and Frozen VO...

So we all know the 1M was only made available in one of three factory colors (AW, BSM, and VO). And we also know that BMW did make a "few" cars for some connected Individual's. That Bronze 1M in Singapore comes to mind. BMW has also hinted they might have made only a handful of other colors - no word on what colors though. Then we all have seen PowerBeast 's lovely Dakar Yellow 1M. Not sure IF that was done by BMW or not.

Now today we see BMW has made two other colors. A Frozen Blue and a Frozen VO. Take a look. I wonder what other colors we will see down the road that BMW "did not make" but really made.

This particular 1M was stripped of the clear coat and had Frozen OEM clear coat applied over the paint. It looked very nice and the job was perfect. As far as the Frozen Black and Matte Black there is quite a difference between the two. Frozen Black is very smooth and slick to the touch and has a low-lustre shine where as Matte Black paint is very porous and no shine at all. E92 M3 with BMW BANK stickers is Matte Black and F10 M5 or E90 M3 is Frozen Black for comparison.

The CRT parked next to the GTS belongs to the same guy/family from Australia, who keeps them in Germany so they can enjoy them here.

The other picture with two M3 CRTs (1 and 2 of 67) and F10 M5 in Frozen Silver parked between them were given to press for test rides, and then will be sold later.

Here is that bronze 1M from SG. It was reported the owner paid something like four or five times the price of a standard Individual price for paint! 25K euros!?

To me, the blue doesn't appear to be frozen...there is a good shine to it. Also more telling is the definition of the lights reflected in the paint. Matte colors tend to reflect pinpoint light as a diffuse light, and the reflections in the blue car are pretty sharp, not very diffuse.

Still...It is a beautiful color.

Man, that Frozen Valencia Orange looks great. Might have to beat Paps to it.

I have been a very big fan of blue but for some reason all the different blue's on the forum for the 1M just doesn't do it.

Compare the German "Frozen VO" with the "Matte VO" that was put up for sale at a Swiss dealership for 80K (if the currency is Swiss Franc [CHF] then it's approx. US$83.5K or EUR66.5K) (posted last January: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showp...35&postcount=1)

Difficult to see whether the blue colour of the blue 1M is definitely "frozen".

Oh well, all those frozen/matte gimmicks: maybe a treat in a portfolio, but IRL quite a hassle to keep in good shape and clean, I guess.

"BMW is making soon to be 2011 Frozen Gray M3 owners sign an agreement that they understand the care the "frozen" paint finish requires.
BMW's Suggestions to avoid paint damage:
- Never polish or wax the frozen gray paint as it could lead to a glossy surface.
- If washing your frozen gray M3 in a automatic car wash (you should be killed) choose a car wash that does not apply vehicle wax. Rinse the M3 with high pressure water to remove dirt before sending it through the automatic car wash to avoid scratches from sand, dust and other micro-particles.
- Remove bugs, bird poo, tree sap, tar, fuel spills or oil immediately using a soft sponge.
- Avoid strong rubbing while cleaning the frozen paint. BMW sells suitable products for maintaining the frozen paint at your local dealer.
- Repairs to the paint (scratches, dents, etching) must be completed by a BMW trained body shop. Most auto body shop will not be capable of repairing the frozen gray paint.
The agreement goes on to explicitly state that the warranty does not cover the frozen gray paint if it is damage by the owner as a result of negligence, lack of maintenance or proper care, environmental damage or improper repairs.
Only once the agreement is signed and returned to BMW will their car be shipped to them. Without signing the notice you're not getting your shiny new (or in this case matte) 2011 BMW Frozen Gray M3.
It's interesting that these 30 Frozen Gray M3 owners are paying extra for a finish that seems less durable, easier to damage and impossible to repair."

"The treatment involves normal base layers of water-borne paint finished in a satin clearcoat, and the warnings still persist: don't use chemicals or abrasives, dry with only cotton cloths, not microfiber, avoid automated car washes like the plague, and no matter how tempting, never wax or polish your car"

In the recent past I compiled some color combos (a mix of renders and real) when Powerbeast was asking for paint suggestions regarding his infamous AW 1M (as we all know, in the end he went for Dakar Yellow paint - no wrap):
http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showp...6&postcount=36

Then there is also the Japanese VO 1M that got a "Fire Orange U92/2" paint treatment:

Btw... I am not really sure if Powerbeast 's Dakar Yellow was a factory job or not. He has been kind of vague on that. But the other cars in my OP are all Individual paint jobs done by BMW by the looks of it.

Maybe the matte VO sold by a Swiss dealership ? Or is it a wrap ? No info.

'Works in progress' pictures of Powerbeast's 1M transformation with Dakar Yellow paint. Not particularly vague, methinks:

I know for a fact Powerbeats DY was done here in Southern California. I saw that car many times in AW. I know where the shop is that the DY was done.

Its vague to me that this frozen VO and blue are BMW one offs, how do we know they werent just redone by the owner??

I honestly think the orange and blue are wrap, especially the VO, i know how the matte wrap reflects light. this SLR is a wrap, similar color similar reflection.

glossy wrap ? yes please

wrap is very close to real paint, either matt or glossy. im saying so coz its very popular here in Dubai (i personally might pull the trigger on a wrap soon hehe)
