Do you strap it down? Or is there a spot for it? I looked down and well that battery...is well place for no apparent reason!

The battery, exhaust, and often spare tire are used as a tool for evening out the weight distribution of the car which is why ours is placed where it is. There is no "spot" for the tire. You would anchor it yourself in the trunk somewhere.

I just drop kicked a kitten into a wood cipper.
Just say weight more one time and I'll start punting puppies.

Who gives a flaming dead cat about 40lbs!

I use the mighty force of gravity and 2 plastic wheel chocks to keep it in place.

If you have an E82, you have to add the two forward rear cargo hooks, but this is an option: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showp...4&postcount=18

two forward rear cargo hooks
yeah saw that in the DIY section looked very easy to do and very smart thing to do!
BMW cranium and rectum should not occupy the same space at the same time! WTF!
Forward cargo hooks and spare tire! WTF!

Deep German accent something like Kissinger
In the great state of Germany we do not believe in hooks nor in spare tires. In Bavaria the streets are cleaned by virgins and are smoothed over with beer.

ok well I'll just have to order the kit and just do what a man has to do I guess? Throw it in the bag and strap it down to the rear hooks.

You didn't understand why the battery was placed where it is and I informed you. I said nothing about the weight of the tire. Go buy a spare and put it in the only logical place... the f-ing trunk. It ain't so hard.

Any one order this? Does it fit our massive front brakes?
And is the tote bag worth it?
These guys want $99 for it!

Honestly for that price I think i'd rather just buy a 17in wheel and tire and wheel /tire bag and throw a full size spare in the trunk

The tire and wheel from trademotion is not mounted when you get it. The tire from Bimmerzone is 244.95 you will also need the jack kit which is 99.95 for a total of around 345 but it says free shipping. Myself and several others bought the tire and jack kit from Bavarian Autosport. It cost 306.95 and around 40-45 to ship. Just lay the tire in the trunk and secure from rear hooks to lug nut holes with a couple of bungey straps. I personally have no need for a tote bag.

Several members have gone this route ,but most only carry a full size tire on long trips due to the limited trunk space. BTW dont forget the jack and lug wrench.

http://www.bavauto.com/shop.asp

This just gets you to the home page. Click where it says choose vehicle. Then select yr and model. Scroll down slightley and you will see Emergancy Spare Tire Kit. Click on that. You will notice it says M3 spare tire, but it works great on the 1 series.

That looks like a pretty good deal @$99!!!

We only need a 17 inch wheel to clear our front brake calipers/rotors.

I bought the alloy spare wheel for a 135i/335i that BMW sells over here in Germany. The tire does not have any DOT stamps... so BMW NA can not sell the complete wheel. But you can order the alloy wheel and source a (DOT)tire from any tire shop or from TireRack.com

the jack kit you can order from BMW NA...

I have posted all the part numbers before for this mini donut spare tire. The jack kit was like 100 euros and the alloy wheel with tire was around 150 euros.

The entire kit from trademotiom is $315. The 99 dollar deal is just for the jack at bimmerzone. The tire is 244 extra.
