Not Impressed
I got around to changing the front pads this morning, only to finish the job cranky and bewildered. The reason I was changing the pads was that EBC Greenstuff pads were in there and they were noisy and dusty...
Or at least I thought that's what the workshop put in there. Turns out that Textar pads were actually used. Never heard of them before and they have nothing to do with EBC. I got over that then realized that the backing shims from the pads had been removed . I was furious to say the least. So I had to put it all back together again with the old pads and will need to call BMW tomorrow to acquire the shims.Ok, it's off my chest now. I'll get the shims sorted and hopefully do it all again next weekend.

That sucks Craig! I say name and shame so we know not to take our cars there.

Wait to you find out that those shims only come with the OE pads. They are glued onto the pads.
Textar is a German maker of pads. Most German cars come with them. Jurid , ATE and TRW are also some of the other biggies. |

Really? The rear shims are removable so I assumed the fronts would be the same. The Textar pads have a shim glued to the back of them so might see if I can wedge it off without damaging it and use them. I've got Project Mu pads to go on and they just have the pad with no metal shim backing.

No need. Maybe I had a bad experience but plenty of others rate the workshop so no point besmirching their reputation. I was actually hoping more for advice on the shims.

That actually happened with this brake change as well. The store I got them from openly admitted they made a mistake and are doing everything they can to send me the right ones. Mistakes happen, although the whole episode is making me pull my hair out.

Ok, despite some advice I've been given, I'm going to install the pads with the oem backing plate. So, is there anyone in Brisbane with an old set of oem front pads that I can have/buy cheaply so I can pull the plates off to attach to the new pads? I don't want to rip the backing plates off the pads I'm taking off as I'm concerned if I destroy the plates then I'm stuck. So, anyone got old pads lying around?

I've got some old OEM pads in my garage ~4000km away in Brisbane. Can't remember if the backing plates are still there? I'll be home briefly (for about 12 hours...) on June 14. I also use some Hardbrake titanium shims on my pads.
http://hardbrakes.com/ Hey Craig, have you been in touch with the workshop yet? They want to sort this out with you. |

I thought I would follow this thread up. Someone from ECS told me the OEM pads are actually rebranded Textar pads. Never heard of this before?
